hi James, didn’t get all meanings ??? what should i do ???
perfect! thanks….:)
HI James
you said ” Did we get any email today ?”
this question sounds in the past tense why you didn’t use “got” ?? thnxxxxxxxxx
Hello there,
Muhammad25jan this is a simple past tense question and therefore as the rules say: negative and question forms are made using auxiliary verb “did” and simple form of main verb. That is why we use get instead of got. Hope that clarifies your question. Cheers
Other meanings:
get=obtain
get=buy
get=understand
get=fetch
get an illness=Contract a disease
get=score
get
Hi James-san
I’m sometime confused about the use of “get” causative verb
For example
I got the door to shut properly.
I had the door shut properly.
Both are OK or not?
I got Boss to check this document.
When asking superior person, can I use this expression?
Br,
Yutoshi

Hi i think he use the funy way in teaching .
wow!!!!!!!1 i really understood clearly….
Thx, a nice and smart explanation
The Honorable Administrator,
I’d like to inform You that the quiz is so different from what Mr.James has explained. On the video, the explanation is about five kinds of the use of “Have” that are to express action, possession, necessity, modals-past(e.g. should’ve&could’ve), and perfect. Mr. James didn’t explain about “Get” at all. However, the quiz (and the title) is about the meanings of “Get” such as receive, answer, cause/become, and to go and bring back for use.
Both video and quiz should’ve had the correlation each other like most videos.
I really like this website. That’s why I write this all. I do apologize for this comment.
Regards,
Rifai.
thank u james u are neci teacher.
too fast … I must repeat :(
It is nice to get that information from EngVid
yup…i get it…..thank you soooooooo much……
get (+ object) = receive
It’s useful tip, thanks James!
This lesson is so useful. Many people do struggle with this verb and its variants.
Thanks James “Can you get the door?” What does it mean?
it means: “can you open the door?”
That’s the difficult part “Can you get the door?” For me it means that you go to the door and open it, someone outside the door come in so you can receive the person outside the door meanwhile you answer to the command to go toward the door. I hope I get it the meaning, tell me if It’s right
James is my favorite, I got everything ;)

What does “get right” mean?
i am anew joiner thanks for gooood lessons help me to study english
think you james
Yeahhhh I got 100 % . Thanks.
Dear James:
Once again, I am pleased to contact you, as I am to have watched this lesson. Meanwhile, I have a question, and I hope you will be able to answer it to me.
I would have rather understood your sentence “Mr. E needs to get a haircut” as “Mr. E needs to receive a haircut”. In order for “get” to mean “to cause / become”, I would have said “Mr. E needs to get his hair cut”, which might sound a little uncommon. Of course, I know I might be wrong, but that being the case, I would like to be advised of my mistake immediately.
Thank you very much for your valuable video. Please get back to me with as answer as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Ernesto Simon

Thanks dude. I finally got the “get” meaning… jajaja
If the verb “to get” has so many meanings, we receive them with enthusiasm, but thinking that we have to afford all of them if we want to improve, as well as possible, our communication skills. In general “get” means “receive”, then we have learnt something more. Thanks a lot, teacher James from EngVid, as always an interesting lesson.
Thank you James .Can you help me with those words.If they go with -receive
or go/bring back ,answer, cause/become
1.to get wet 2.get thirsty 3 get tired 4 get married 5 get a new job 6get well soon 7 get the sack .
Greetings, Kajtazi.
1. “To get wet” is to become wet.
2. “To get thirsty” is to become thirsty.
3. The same idea.
4. The same idea.
5. To recieve or obtain a new job.
6. To become well.
7. To bring the sack.
Have a nice day.
Thanks!
