Listen to this! You will hear FOUR short stories to help you practice your English listening comprehension. But pay attention! At the end of each scenario, you will have to answer three questions AND a bonus question. The scenarios become more challenging as the lesson progresses. Do you have what it takes? Find out with this practical English listening comprehension lesson. For even more listening comprehension practice, listen to the extra story and answer the questions on the quiz.
What did you think of this lesson, and how many questions did you answer correctly? Let me know in the comments, and keep practicing.

Alex
Hi Alex, thank you so much for your new, and unexpected lesson.
I really enjoyed it, and helped me to improve my listening skills.
I have one notice in the third story about the verb employed with hair,
Should we say I brush or I comb my hair ?
Thank you again Mr Alex for what you do for us, you are wonderful.
Padovano
I’m glad this was unexpected. It seems like it has been a pleasant surprise, which makes me quite happy.
I say both. Usually, shorter hair is combed, and longer hair is brushed.
Alex
You speak so clearly that it’s great pleasure to listen to you
Goryanchik Maxim
That’s nice to hear. Thanks! I’m glad this was helpful.
Alex
Great ! It’s a good way to improve your listening skills. At the beginning I didn’t understand well. And no subtitles to help you! But as I listened again (and again) , what I usually don’t do, my understanding became better. Great idea to allow access to the written text only at the end. Very good exercice ! Very good lesson ! Very good teacher ! Merci beaucoup Alex.
Archibaldo
I’m glad you listened to the audio multiple times. Also, thank you for mentioning the transcript for the bonus quiz. That was an idea I had, and I’m glad it was a good one. 😅
Alex
Great Lesson! Where can I get the transcript? I did not catch that – perhaps I was not listening!!!
Open the description, go to the bottom, click “Show transcript,” and it will appear beside the video.

Hey Alex :)
I don’t know if you’ll read this.
You and Emma (I know the proper order from your previous lesson :D ) are my favourite teachers from Engvid :)
Your videos/ lessons are very interesting and remain in my memory for a very long time :)
This lesson is also very useful and helpful for me because I have listening comprehension problem so this new video style is a really great idea.
I can’t wait for your next video :)
Best wishes :)
Aneta EngVid
Hi Aneta,
Thank you for your kind feedback. I really appreciate it, and I can guarantee that you will see more listening lessons in 2025. :)
Alex
Definitely in love with new format. Would be glad to watch more lessons like this one. But I think it can be a little bit overwhelming and hard to remember everything from 2 minutes audio fragment so you can complete the quiz correctly. Otherwise it feels like cheating if answer during listening or glancing into transcription. At least for me)) Thank you anyway Alex. You are a talanted teacher. <3 <3 <3
Hantera
Haha. I think it’s okay to keep the questions in your mind and to answer them as you listen. But I hear what you’re saying.
Alex
Dear Alex, this was really an advanced lesson. The English language has tons over tons of words and phrases.
The stories you told may be simple. But every spoken language is much more difficult to listen to and to understand in the same moment for foreigner. Neverthelees thank you for the new method to teach us. See ya!
Arminius
Thanks for the feedback, Aminius. Someone on YouTube told me the lesson was “too easy.” Haha. Everyone is different.
