homophones
. You will notice that each set is made up of one past participle
and one word or more with a different function. A past participle is a word used with a past verb to express something that is passive. For example, in “it was sent”, the word “sent” is a past participle, and “was” is the verb. I will teach you the difference between won
and one
, heard
and herd
, taught
and tot
, bred
and bread
, sent
, scent
, and cent
, been
and bean
, caught
and cot
, and grown
and groan
. I will explain their meaning, and I’ll give examples. Don’t forget to do the quiz after watching to make sure you understood the material. You can also watch my next video on homophones and past simple verbs.

I don’t think that taught and tot, caught and cot are homophones. They’re not the exact same pronunciations I think. One is long vowel sound and the other is short though.

thank you Ronie, excellent lesson
You are a teacher. I don’t think you should use f-ing as an emphatic adjective. There are so many other words you could have used. The casual use of coarse language makes it appear to students that that word is acceptable, and in most situations it is not. I will not use your video with my students.
Thank you for your feedback! Some of our videos do have profanity and other coarse language, or deal with subjects that might not be appropriate for all students—so it is always a good idea to watch them first before using them in a class.
Thank you Ronie.100%

A funny joke with “bred” could be ” I breed my chickens with bread”.
A funny joke with “bred” could be ” I bred my chickens with bread”.
7 minutes into the video she talks about “breed”. Then at 7.27, she says “two cows”. My question is how can two cows breed? A “Cow” is the female, & the male of the species is a “Bull”. Therefore two bulls can not breed, two cows can not breed, but a bull & a cow can.
I love to watch your lessons ?. it’s enjoyeble
Thanks a lot Ronnie.
