8/10 good practice
Idioms always make our talking more colorful and natural. They are useful tools that help us see to some good extent how language really works.
It was a concise and very interesting video-lesson.
Have a great week Rebecca!!!
10/10!
Thanks to Rebecca and her easy way to teach!
I also got 10! :) It’s really a great way to teach!
Thanks Rebecca, You’re amazing teaching! I Got 9 out of 10, not so bad, but sincerely I couldn’t understand very well the real meaning of “do time”
To “do time” means to spend time in jail, or prison. So if I say, “He did time.”, it means that he did something to break the law, and was sent to jail and spent some time there.
Hope that helps! My best to you.
Sure, it helped me too much!
Greetings from Brazil and all the best.
Thanks once again!
Really ,you are smart and good teacher .
thank you ,
10 10 good times
Great lesson! Thanks. 9/10
I got 10, too.
Thank you for your clearly explanation. I’ve a problem to use a phrasal verb “figure out”. Could you please explain how to use it? Thank you.
I got 7 correct out of 10. I should review…haha. But “I had the time of my life” reminds me of the movie “Dirty Dancing” :D The song title was “I’ve had the time of my life.” I had fun. Thank you, Rebecca :)
Yes, you are absolutely right. That song from “Dirty Dancing” is a great example of the meaning of this idiom. It’s wonderful that you made the link! A lot of songs use idioms and it’s good that you have a good ear for them. My best wishes to you.
I’m really glad to hear that! Thank you, Rebecca :D
me too :) “Dirty Dancing” is my favorite movie
This really helps, Thanks
this is first time .very good!thank you
8/10 :) :),, i do not understand “do time”.. will u explain more?? thank u.. :D
Please check the explanation to Isaac above.
My best to you.
10/10, Thank you so much my dear Rebacca, I learn every day with your team.
10% Before watching video and 50% after. It will be good if you write the meaning of the lessons on the board.
Kindly explain the meaning of Rebecca’s mother and Rebeccas’ mother
Rebecca’s mother refers to the mother of Rebecca. Your second example is incorrect and we cannot write that in English.
If you watch more than once, you may be able to pick up even more of the idioms and than your score will go through the roof, which is another idiom that means your score will go very high. My best to you!
Thanks
thanks rebecca
hello madam,is this sentence correct “he ran out of time on the exam”.whether “on the exam” is right. I don’t know i hope you’ll answer me soon.I think “he ran out of time in the exam.”But i’m not sure i want to make sure.
Both “in the exam” and “on the exam” are used and are correct. You were right to wonder. My best wishes to you.
And what about the timey-wimey stuff ?(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vY_Ry8J_jdw)
;-) => still a mystery to me, but each time, it make me laugh !
One of my favourite episodes!
One of mine too, even if I don’t understand everything ;) Understanding of people playing with words has to be another level, isn’t it ?
For sure! Jokes and wordplay are the hardest thing to get.
It would be a nice challenge for every EngVid teacher to make a video about their favorite wordplays or jokes. Is the hardest thing to get, the hardest thing to explain ?
nice
Thanks for your class. I got 9/10. However I don’t understand well the meaning of “to do Time”.I´ve understood it means spend time in some place. It is all right?
thank you Rebecca! you are very nice teacher. :)
Your excellent lesson has captivated me, Rebecca.
Thank you very much
I have the time of my day,
-until now-
Thanks for your feedback and glad you enjoyed the lesson. Actually, we cannot say “the time of my day”, you can only say “the time of my life” meaning one of the best experiences in your whole life. To express what you were trying to say, you could say, ” This has been the best part of my day so far.” or something similar to that. My best wishes to you.
Learning from mistakes
I’m glad to learn English under your guidance
Thank you for your feed back
“feedback” I mean

Thank you Rebecca. It was a very nice class!!!
Rebecca ,it was an excellent lesson. Thanks by heart.
Thanks for your feedback. Actually, a better way to express those thoughts would be:
“Thanks with all my heart” or
“A sincere thanks from my heart”
or some variation of that sentence. I am glad you are using English boldly to express your feelings. All the best to you.
Rebecca how kind you are…Thanks for correcting me.

Hi Madam,
can we tell about a very intelligent boy, He is ahead of his age/time
Actually, the sentence , “He is ahead of his time.” refers specifically to the fact that his ideas are progressive, that they are futuristic. In other words, he thinks of ideas that no one has thought about yet. The expression implies intelligence, but does not mean specifically that he is intelligent.
In the case of your example, I would just say,
“He is very intelligent” or “He is very advanced intellectually for his age.”
We cannot say he is ahead of his age.
Hope this helps! My best wishes to you.
Thank very much for reply.
Professor Rebecca,
SOMBODY IS AHEAD OF TIME – is an idiom
However the phrase “ahead of time” has its natural meaning as below
“They had the whole thing planned ahead of time.”
Kindly confirm or explain. Thanks.
Thanks :)
Thanks for your lesson. I learn a lot from it.

I couldn’t understand very well the real meaning of “why are you giving her such a hard time?”. Please help me.
Why are you bothering her?
Why are you troubling her?
Why are you making her life more difficult?
Why are you scolding her?
Why are you lecturing her?
That’s the idea of that idiom! Hope this helps. All the best to you.
Dear Rebecca, I have a doubt on how to ask a question about, Have you had your food or Have you food & also how to answer this question?I have had food .Then how it comes? Please clarify my doubt. Please forgive if there is any mistakes i made here
Have you had breakfast / lunch / dinner?
This way of asking the question would be fine. The answer could be:
