An easy way to learn phrasal verbs is to learn them in pairs. When you learn one phrasal verb, learn another that means the opposite at the same time. In this English class, I’ll teach you four pairs of phrasal verb opposites, so eight phrasal verbs in total. I’ll teach you how to use: start out, end up, build up, die down, pass out, come to, talk out of, and talk into. And I’ll give you a few extra meanings for some of these as well. Are you ready? Or are you not even sure how you ended up here?
Bob wanted to start out a tourism business with Jim. Jim had no experience with it. So, he was reluctant because he did not know what he was getting into. Jim’s best friend Fred built up his business from scratch. Bob thought that Fred could be the best role model for Jim. So, he wanted him to talk Jim into joining his business. Fred agreed. He told Jim “At first I also knew nothing related to my business, but as you come to see I am rich and very successful now. And Bob is very trustworthy.” After this conversation, Jim decided to take part in Bob’s business. In the beginning, their business was good, but when the covid-19 outbreak hit, it died down and the expenses went through the roof. When Jim saw the last bill, he passed out for a second or two. When he came to himself, he decided to talk Bob out of continuing the business because his loss came to his two houses, one land, and three stores. After Jim left the business, he decided to write his memories. He passed out his book for free because he did not want anyone to end up failing like him.
Thanks, James!

Le Goose was talked into going on a plane flight to Hawaii from Japan. He started out in the flight good, but 69 minutes later passed out and somehow ended up in the cockpit, alone…
