To be
is the most common verb in English. In this basic grammar lesson, I will teach you how to use this verb correctly. You will learn the positive, negative, and question forms of to be
. Even higher-level English students make mistakes with this most basic verb, so even if you think you know this already, you should watch to review.

5 of 5! I think it was be a good start :)
‘I think it was a good start.’, doesn’t need ‘be’ again, cause ‘was’ is a past format of ‘be’.
hahahahahaha do not be so cruel
I like. thanks ronnie. I’m living in Venezuela
there thousands of preposition how is it possible normal person to remember?
once again thanks ronie…
You can’t use was and be at the same time, without using another words between them..
You can use or be or was..It depends of the tense you use..if you want to say something which already happened you use was and for the present you use be..
2 easy
thanks
First!
Ronnie, what is correct? I am first who leaves the message, or I am first who leave the message?
Yeah, the same question I was going to ask. And also does it change anything if we say: I am the first person who ? the message???
oh I don’t need this.Just kidding =) that was very helpful as review,so thankxxxxxxxxxxxx

I am the first to leave the message.

Hi Ronnie I like your style of teaching so I wanted to complement you.
I would be happy if you can take a class on what are first person singular and Plural. What are 2nd person singular and plural and 3rd person Singular and plural.
what means third person singular
thanks ronie
“I am first who leaves the message, or I am first who leave the message?”
if i remember right leaves you will use only with he she or it so at your sentence you should use leave. If you would write she he or it you would use leaves

Leaves is correct because your subject is singular!

Hello Ronnie !!! Yo are so amazing teacher !!!! I love only your style of teaching !!!!!!
Hi..! Thanks for your teaching on video.
I like you teach. My scored 5 out 5.
I forget them easily how could I remember them a little better so I won’t ever forget them?
In test I always forgot them again and I got 40/100 something like that anyway so how do I improve
Always review what you learn to remember!
When do we use present perfect in a sentence?
When we talk about a event in the past with no time marker. Ex… I have been to Mexico. VS i went to Mexico last year.
And when we talk about a period of time in the past Ex: ‘I have studied English in highschool’ or ‘I studied English in highschool’
Thank you kindly
Iam so glad to be with this sit

Hi miss
How r u?
Can u help me
What’s the diffrence between of & from
It’s really confused me
I’d moss grateful :)
From means where something/one was created or born. Ex. I am from Canada. I cannot say I am of Canada.
Other than that example, of and from are pretty much interchangeable. Ex… I died of a heart attack. I died from a heart attack.
Hi..! Thanks for your teaching on video.
I like you teach. My scored 5 out 5.

Hi Ronnie!
I have a request for you. Would you please explain the use of gerund after the preposition “to”, like in “I am looking forward to hearing from you” or “we intend to getting back” For non native English speakers it is sometimes difficult to determine if we use “to” as a preposition or as part of the infinitive form. I´d be delighted if you could do that for me.
Best regards,
Richard.

Review new vocab you learn each day and try to use it in a sentence. Try to remember the sentence!

“Been”, “was” and “am” are all forms of “be” — that’s where you should look!

Hi, Ronnie, I enjoy watching your lessons, you’ve got no idea of how much I’ve learned from them. The verb to be is one of the most difficult to comprehend when you are a Spanish native speaker, specially because we have two different verbs to express what you do with just one. In Spanish, “to be” could be translated as “ser” or “estar”, both being different. Well, thanks for this and the other lessons you’ve prepared for us. Greetings from México.
thank you very much Ronnie
hi there! how have you been? could you let me know how i can find out weather u anwser back the comment i left a few days ago. the thing is that i do not remember on what video left it. hey Ronnie i need to know the meaning of the phase you are something. it would be nice if u explain it to me. what about . most of the time i use a sledge-hummer to crack a nut. xoxo
Your answer should be in your hotmail email!
Most of the time i use a sledge-hammer to crack a nut= you do things to the fullest extent to make sure the action happens!
Please sign up for a free engVid account. You will then get email notification when someone replies to your comments.

Do + verb. Do you like salad?

hai mam please tell me the diffrence between could, would, should.when we use this
Search this on the website – there are already lessons on could/would/should for you!

Dear Ronnie,
I saw in many english movies the word ain’t used..Is it same as Am not I??
And in the video lesson you said that it is very unusual to start question with “isn’t it”..but Almost all teachers in my school days they used to say “isn’t it” ?? Is it completely wrong…Or Is acceptable to say like
” Isn’t she” or “Isn’t he”?
It is not wrong – just unnatural.
it,s useful lesson …thank you teacher
hi Ronnie I love your classes, i have studied by myself, everydays I listen in my ipod your english classes and some news from BBC during 2 hours per day the point is, i can´t understand ” The native people on the streets ” just some speakers and tutors, now i am taking private classes with a nigerian girl, but her pronunciation is totaly different of my last teachers, so i am confused about the correct pronunciation i was thinking about, how do i to learn more fast, am I on the correct way?
You are doing well to listen to the BBC and watch Engvid! Also, if your teacher is Nigerian, she will have a different accent! That is great to learn from many different sources!!!!

Hi, Ronnie! I like your lessons so much. Could you give me some pieces of advice, which exercises can be used with the verb “to be”, when it comes with the explanation of it to 9 years old child? Thank you very much!
You can talk about jobs = He is a fireman. They are teachers. She is a doctor.
Or emotions – He is sad. I am happy.
Or locations – She is at home. He is under the bed!
Good luck!
Hi Ronnie
We are talking about the usage of the verb “To be” but we didn’t use it even in a single sentence. Kindly give an example of verb “To be” and also what is the meaning of word “To be”

4 su 5 Ronnie, non ho visto che l’ultima era interrogativa. Grazie per la tua presentazione superba.
Ta Ta
When I can use To Be verb? or To Do verb?
for example: do you hungry? or are you hungry?
If the word is an adjective, you must use to be. Ex…hungry is an adjective so you must say I am hungry!
Sub + to be + adjective.
Sub + do + noun. I do homework. I do the dishes.
i got perfect score!!!
Thank dear Ronnie for everythink.U r my the my best teacher.I love u:)
Thanks, very nice and easy lesson
thank you so much….

[to be]is it mean is,am,are???
:)
Madam your teaching way is very nice.
Mam plaease teaches us other 2 type of onditional.plz rep
There’s a new lesson on conditionals going up very soon!
Hi, Ronnie,
BBC caption: “Crime to be reported to police…”. Why not “Crime will be reported to police…”? What grammar rule allows to remain “to be” unchangeable in cases like this?
It’s short for “The crime is to be reported to the police”. News headlines often shorten things to get across more information, so they can seem ungrammatical.
heh ronnie ur the best teacher they way u taught us z superb nd i have a question for u that with i and we mostly we use shall but in books i read that i will nd we will so would u pls explain it em waiting for ur answer
Hi, Ronnie
Why only the pronoun “I” is written with capital letter, whilst the other pronouns like you, he, she etc. are written with lowercase letter?
Take care,
Vilson
I have no idea why! However, every time you write I, you must use a capital!
Thanks a lot^^
5/5 thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you Ronnie :)
Hi teacher Ronnie, I was wondering how to make the lesson of the verb to be longer up to 30 minutes

If is possible, could you please answer me what kind of verb tense is the sentence bellow ?:
“Many chapters have disappeared entirelly, and their material HAS BEEN CONDENSED into existing..”
Question: there is a mix of present perfect and present perfect continuos?
“Many chapters have disappeared entirely, and their material HAS BEEN CONDENSED into existing.
Have disappeared = present perfect.
Has been condensed = present perfect passive!
Great lessons Ronnie !
which is correct ?
She is not there .
She was not there.
She is not there= present tense.
She was not there = past tense.
They are both correct!
when to use be +ing for example be sitting, be continuing, I want to know the exact uses.
Be + verbING we use for things we are doing RIGHT NOW!!! For example, I am typing, I am breathing. My dog is sleeping. This is called present continuous!

Thanks Teacher. Good Lesson
Hello Ronnie!
you use “is” together with singular.
example: he is, she is, this is, that is and like that.
But Why is it then correct to say “everyone is”? because everyone means that it is many people we talk about.
Because when we are many we use are. But as I understand it is correct to say: everyone is.
so why is it right to say everyone is?
thank you
thanks !!!
thanks alot

Hi Ronnie ^.^
How’s it going?
Well, I will start to learn English by myself and I’ll go to use this site (EngVid) for that. I love how you and other teachers teach ♥. In this way, I wanna know where do I start? I know a little bit of English because once I read my English books. I know that my English isn’t perfect, but I can communicate with other people. Also, my vocabulary is limited and I get the words that I see in movies and search about it mean on the dictionary of the internet. I hope to be able to speak English until 2021 >.<
I'm going to prepare a schedule for myself. I've got a lot of work on my way hehehe.
