Happy04

    hi,
unchanging nouns are nouns that stay the same…
    plural or singular…
    example: 1 fish, 5 fish
    2 sheep, 1 sheep etc

The plural form of ‘focus’ can be either focuses or foci. The latter is more formal than the former. Greetings!

      thanks you so much acidkike

      Manolya

Good that you are applying what you have learned by finding new examples. Yes, there are many more. You could google the topic to find lists of many more such nouns. All the best!

    Rebecca

Thanks Rebecca! but I have a question: can I say or use the unchanigin nouns in the plural form, for example the fishes, is that correctly?

amontero22

I think such as in lesson if you want to say many fish you can say “Those/These fish” but you want to say a fish you can say “this/that fish” .

Rebecca could you tell me which sentence is correct?Police is/are going to help us to solve this criminal case?Is it correct using is or are in this sentence?
Many thanks for this helpful lesson :-)

TEJALKK

It’s police are. Police should be used with a plural verb. However, many people including media treat “police” as a singular noun nowadays. So I guess, it’s not wrong to say “police is”.

    Sayaka.S

      Hi Sayaka.S,
I really appreciate your kind reply to my query.Thank you very much indeed for your cooperation.
      Regards,

Dear Prof.
I would appreciate it, if you would be so kind as to let me have a piece of information about two preposition. Let me presently explain:
It is necessary that I should say : I am AT University or I am IN University. I do not know what is right in UK, Canada and Usa. I pay my respect to you.
yours faithfully
briklend handersson

N.B: I got 10 out of 10.

Briklend Handersson

    * I beg your pardon: two prepositions

    Briklend Handersson

In North America, we usually use “I’m at the university.”, to say we are at the physical place. For example:

      Where is John now?
      He’s at the university.

But if you want to say that he is a student of the university, then you should say, ” He’s in university”. For example:

What’s your son doing these days?
      He’s in university.

Hope this helps! Thanks for your feedback and all the best to you, Briklend.

      Rebecca

Hi Rebecca
I’ve scored 1o out of 10. Thanks to your productive lesson, it helped me to understand a lot more in these, and help indicated me to see the mistakes I may make when using the language.

Also it would be really grateful if I could able to find more of these irregulars, singular, plural and unchanging nouns.
Do you have have an ideas for me to look up on the website or could you help me more about this sections.

However I am very much appreciated in your effort of teaching and all your crew.

Alex

You would need to google the topic – there are several websites which could give you further info. Thanks for your feedback and all the best to you.

Hi Rebecca! You wrote in your “Spelling of Plural Nouns in English” that “news” is “a plural noun having no singular forms”. But at this lesson you said that “the news” is a singular noun. I am slightly confused. What is the correct definition? And how should I say “1 news,2 news etc?”

SergioMaliccone

Thank you.

SergioMaliccone

Hi, thank you very much! I was very easy.

ONURRR

Wow Rebecca definitely you was right,no matter when you made this amazing class i just want to give my thanks because as you said, i have learned something important in my writing and reading skills in just a few minutes, i had ideas about irregular plural nouns but certainly i did not know about the last two. When i used to watch them on television or when i was reading something from a website i thought they were plural when actually they were singular or both. Thanks again my dear professor.

Regards and hugs from Venezuela.
