miss
and lose
? These two words are very similar, but we use them differently in English. Do you say “I lost
the bus” or “I missed
the bus”? Did you “lose
your keys” or “miss
your keys”? Don’t miss this English lesson! I’ll teach you when to use these words, so you can avoid making mistakes with these confusing English words. Once you know the difference, take the quiz to make sure you understand the correct usage!

great lessons thank you.
This lesson helped me out to better understand the similarities between these two easily-confused verbs.
For Spanish speakers these verbs have practically the same meaning, this is where the whole problem arises.
Regards to all EngVid viewers.

Hello James.Your lesson is very clear. Thanks.
Hi Teacher James
I am a new student. My teacher recommended this web to me. I need your advise on how to open this lesson taught. What kind of software to use to attend the lesson taught, pls help………..Thank You!
Thanks for your website.
thanks James !! i got 10 of 10 :D
Thank you for this lesson Mr. James. That was excellent. Bye. Grettings from Brazil!
Mr. James I appreciate what you are doing for teaching us English but there are some points should be considered. First of all, your explanation is not highly clear because your accent is a little bit difficult and fast. Secondly there are some points and information in your lessons you teach them hastily but we need to learn everything in detail regarding the lesson. Third point is that you are not serious in teaching and always funny, that makes your lessons a little bit boring. I see, you should be like the other EngVid teachers they use a simple way for teaching us, their explanation and accent are very clear and simple to understand. Finally, I thank you Mr. James and hope you change the way and manner of your teaching to understand your lessons without any difficulty.
Best regards
I am not agree with you. I think, James speaks very clear. His jokes make the lessons more fun and interesting. Mr. E is the best teacher in the world.
Dear Tuti,
as Gardener says, people have different kinds of “intelligences” and different way to learn.
If you think James is not right for you, you have to change teacher or you will lose your time :)
You sound like a teacher Byte, Gardener?
Giving some advice?, well . . . this is the way I would put it:
” If James’ teaching style does not fit you, then you should consider other options; otherwise you are just WASTING your time”
Regards
Hahhah I wrote Gardener instead of Gardner. Anyway flowers could be use as a form of communication:)
Your English is a SONG for me, Regino. Thanks
Of course, Tuti, that’s your advise and I respect it. But I remind you that, in case you have problems in understanding the video, there are subtitles and captions that may help you. Furthermore, before seeing a video, you should check the level of the lesson: this is an intermediate one, so maybe your English is at a lower level. If you pay attention, teachers’ speed of speech increases by level: that makes learners get used to the way in which English people speak in the real life.
As for the humor in James’s videos, I hope he goes on with it because that makes the lesson much more funny and fluent. I understand, you feel frustrate and uncomfortable since you’re not able to catch it, but I repeat, it is maybe just a problem of your level of language. Remind that the fact that you don’t understand anything is not a reason to ask teacher to teach differently: it should be an extra-motivation for you to improve your English.
I don’t agree with you, I think you should try another teacher instead of your trying to change his way.
The scenes of humor that he has is good for him as teacher and for us who we are learning.
I suggest Ronnie, check her videos you will like her..her accent is clear but she is also funny lol!
hah other way round being funny teacher helps the lesson not to be boring)
Hey!!
want to share skypeID for english convo?
Hi Stan28, I would like to chat with you and improve our fluency and understanding… let me know if you are interested Skype: Wilberth.ramirez@hotmail.com.

I got 100, thanks teacher !
Sir thank you so much my 2nd lesson but interesting You speak with different vocabularies and you are not getting me lippy unlike some boring English courses that make learners pay through the nose like the students don’t have a nose for value and boring them,Brother keep teaching new stuffs cause your teaching make me want to face it and it help me Making headway in English and I realize that you have a lot of your mind to teach us.
Hey Mr. James, you could tell us the story about Mr. E. someday. I would like know a little more about him.
Thank you for not making me missing what you were saying, Your pronunciation is clear and understandable, It’s obvious if I stick with your teachings I won’t stutter when I speak but I will be moving forward and making headway so that I won’t lose my mind away looking for ”improving my English” with noisy teacher by the way help me see my progress, correct my writting and tell me how do you see my english please Teacher James,Gracias !
Cheikh Sneibe If he does not want to change his way and fast accent, no problem I think he is better to teach slang, vocabulary, or expression lessons and let the other EngVid teachers teach us all other kind of lessons to get high level of understanding and information
Thank you James and Mr.E :)it’s very useful

I saw this phrase “Don’t worry if you missed the concert!” Is it correct? If I lost a concert, I don’t see anymore, as a football game, if they lost they don’t go repeat it. Am I correct? Thank you
oh i miss seoumd question i got 9 :(
very good explaining I don´t like to miss it. You are a great teacher. thank you.
great teaching!
I’m afraid I’d need some advice here. In this lesson you always used the simple past tense about losing something in the past. However, (for exp.) if you lost your keys yesterday or five minutes ago and you still have not found them, then that situation is still valid, still exists. So you should use present perfect and say that “I’ve lost my keys” shouldn’t you?
In a previous lesson Benjamin said that present perfect is used only for something happened quite recently( like five minutes ago) And past tense – for something happened in the past. And he gave two examples:
“Bruce is looking for his helmet, he can’t find it.He has lost it”.(just happened)
“Bruce lost his helmet (in the past). But now, he has found it. (recently)
And in another lesson Rebecca said that past simple it is used with expression suggesting a specific time(yesterday, last year, last week)and present perfect with expression suggesting an unfinished time (this week, this year, since January…)
I hope it helps you.
1. Benjamin would have not said that because that’s not true. The present perfect tense can represent an action started in the past (maybe a very long time ago, that doesn’t matter) but it’s still valid in the present. A typical example in common conversations:
– Have you ever been to the USA?
– Yes, I have.
Regardless of you visited the USA last week or many years ago, present perfect is always correct if you don’t mention a specific time.
2. In the example about Bruce the second sentence specifies that the first event happened in the past and is no more valid. That’s the reason because you use simple past in the first sentence.
3. Yes, Rebecca’s statement is right but the sentence “I’ve lost my keys” doesn’t contain a time adverb.
4. “since January” is a wrong example for simple past because that specifies only the beginning of an action. You mostly have to use
present continuous or perfect (have + been) in such sentences.

Hope I could help you. ;)
Thank you James
