yes this is very important to know about ( “IN WHICH, BY WHICH, OF WHICH, THROUGH WHICH, etc”) cause it’s like a barrier for me when i’m reading an academic book and i hope that will be clear for me some day.

João (John)

Hi Ronnie! Excellent lesson! Could you make a lesson about scream, shout and yell? it difficult forme to know when I have to use each one.
thank you very much in advanced.
take care!

cotygv26

I will try to make a lesson for you!
Scream is when you are scared or excited – it is a natural reaction to an event. It is not a word – just a loud sound like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Shout and yell are the same! They are like loud talking. If you are angry or excited you talk louder. Shout and yell are actual words that we say just louder than usual.

    Ronnie

Hi! Thank you so much, I think I get it now, what happens is that we Spanish speakers, use one verb and one noun for so I got confised like with watch, look and see by the way i saw that video and it is much clear to me now.

      Take care!

      cotygv26

Thank you ,,

mouza

Hi Ronnie, it was a funny and great lesson. You are totaly right. Congratulations. You guys make difference with this website.

hi, my name is Diana Martinez, I´m from Colombia and I want to know, Which is the order of the class? How I can get organized for all class?

diana7610

Thanks Ronnie

aljasmi

I would also say that is more difficult to understand than speaking, so you can talk with other people whenever you want but as long as you understant what they say you, otherwise it’s a conversation between deaf.
Hi Ronnie, you are direct woman, teaching a good spoken english but in Italy you would be anemployed, here they don’t know teaching english (especially in a schools), they teach a lot of grammar rules that you don’t use when you speak (we haven’t enought time to think)and they aren’t native speaker so the students listen to sentence with a sound, accent and spelling that is no spoken english but another thing. After this student will come in UK or in USA and they will think “what did I study in all these years”?….boh. bye, bye

amam15

Hello there!

I just created my account two days ago,Thanks for all your helpful videos in fact I almost watched them all!

But now I would like to know how to make a request as you say in at the end of your videos here on Engvid.com but anyway I just wanted to ask about grammar which is the most important thing for me in English like
1-the past perfect
2-the present perfect
something like: has + been + p.p

I know a lot of things in Grammar but actually sometimes I don’t know how to use them for example I know that past perfect is consist of was or were + p.p but I don’t know how to use this particular thing in a proper way so hope you understand and thank you for your efforts!

misfer

Past perfect is had + p.p!
    Present perfect is have/has + p.p!
Was/were +p.p is NOT past perfect, is it “passive voice”.
We usually use past perfect to talk about 2 events in the past that happened at around the same time. We use past perfect for the 1st event, and simple past for the 2nd event. EG>>> 8:00 go to store. 8:30 eat dinner…..So we would say “I had been to the store (1st event in Past Perfect), then I ate dinner.“ (2nd event use simple past).
Present perfect we use to talk about past events that do not have a time marker…..I`ve been to Germany. ( I didn`t say when I went!)
PASSIVE is when we focus on the action and not who did the action. EG“ I ate the cookies“ Passive = The cookies were eaten.

    Ronnie

Could you make a video lesson to demonstrate these things please?
      Because I don’t understand yet.

      Thank you.

      misfer

can i know what is p.p?

      naza

p.p is the past participle of the verb.

        Ronnie

      Good answer!
      Thanks a lot.

      EI NYEIN HAN

very good explanation thanks teacher for your effort.God bless you every day.

      lostdel

      Ronnie you always surprise me.

Reuben Gachau

It was very good Ronnie, i wish i could knew those videos long time ago to help improve my english.

maureen

hi Ronnie

i know we usually put adverb after first auxilliary as in
“…have previously been found…”
BUT
i often find the following writing everywhere
“…have been previously found…”

does it have slightly different meaning? are both grammatically correct? if that’s so, which one should i prefer?

gerreze

I think they are both the same!

    Ronnie

hi, Ronnie
how are you today?

    Ronnie

hi dear estemated teacher Ms, ronnie!iwould like to know where is located ur classs is in Toronto?please

      momana

WHAT CAN I SAY MORE THAN AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING !!! best teacher ever !! XD !!
I have a problem with make and do !! some times I Don’t know which one to use when it is followed by a name !! just to make my question clear here is an example : we say make some food NOT do some food !! with food I know I have to you the verb TO MAKE !! but what about the other names ! :)

NABIL

Make and do….. I know it is very confusing in English!!
You must be careful because if you say “do + noun”, sometimes it means you have sex with it!!! hahaha like I do food means you have sex with food!!!
We usually “do” chores= homework, cleaning, exercise, the laundry, the ironing.
But we make=the/a/my bed, dinner, a mess, a card, a house.
To make it simple, when we say make we mean more like “prepare” or “create”.
    Hope that helps!

    Ronnie

      Thanks a lot,
      excellent work Ms.Ronnie.

      kaiwan

I MEAN NOUN NOT NAME !! :D

Your tips are so positive and persuasive, I would never give either them or your lessons. I hope that my English comment isn’t falling short of your expectations. I will keep following you with passion. Keep up with your great job.

hye ronnie,I m simran ,,U know,i always feel hesitation while talking english, what should i do dear?

Simran

Ms.Ronnie
I would be very appreciate If u able to learn us how to understand dialogs of English movie easily. Is there any technique?
Thank you,
Thanuj.
From Sri Lanka.

thanuj

The difficult thing about movies is that they use slang. It is really impossible to learn it unless you have a native tutor or friend who can teach you! Also, slang varies from every country/city and generation! Slang is always changing!
I suggest you try to listen to the movies and use the English subtitles, then look on the internet for the meanings!
    Good luck!

    Ronnie

      I totally agree with you :-) Whenever I hear a word I don’t know I write it down and look it up. My brother is good explaining sex jokes that go over my head sometimes^^;;

      culaznguy

hi ronnie.i hav a suggestion.y dont u make a lesson on phrasals.esp those wid the verb get.i hav seen and watched on tv ppl using ” get off” in so many diff ways.i dont see those usages in any dictionary.like is it right “get off the bed/sofa.i also get confused when to use get sth off or take sth off.
Also shud i say keep seated or keep sitting.keep focused or keep focussing.waiting for ur reply.hav a nice day.

mahnoor

Yes – get off the sofa is correct! It means to stand up.
Take something off is usually clothes. Take off your shoes/shirt/coat.
You can get off of something – Get off the bus/train/airplane/sofa/chair/bike.
You get out of the car/bed/taxi.

    Keep focused. Keep seated.

    Ronnie

hay ronnie, I’m rijal from indonesia, and I’m the beginner to learn english, do you have any tips for my learning???!!!
sorry if my english is bad

samsul rijal

I would suggest learning vocabulary first and then trying to make simple sentences. Try to learn 2-3 new words a day and make sentences using the new words!

    Ronnie

really great lesson thanks

rabeea

It was not about english, it was about something deeper and also simpler. You should be a psychologiste. I especially like: “no one knows what to say”. People should feel more confortable after that, but you make me dizzy when you look at my eyes.

ms. ronnie,
my main problem is
…. im afraid to raise my hand im very afraid to explain my answer and talk infront of my classroom.
should i study more?

mon2898

that same problem was with me,,it doesn:t means u study less,It jsut shows u have less confidence,u feel hesitate, while explaining, just answer them like u dont care ur answer will be correct or not!raise ur confidence!u vl be better

    simran96

    No! Don’t study……….just talk!

    Ronnie

      Hi,Ms. Ronnie
I’m from the Philippines. I really like your style in teaching English. Hope to see more topics from you. Take care and God Bless!

      ces

Hello all, really i had the same situation when i was giving my expose in front of the whole class,i was very shy at first, but believe me,when i started to talk and explain without looking at the paper,a great change has happened to me,just try to take loong breath, and remember that no one was born excellent,we’re all still learning,so it’s normal to make mistakes, keep talking, and looking at the audience to show them that you’re self confident and you know exactly what you’re talking about.
Once again ! it’s not a scandal to make mistakes, but the great scandal is to keep making ’em,so talk freely,u can say anything but tactfully, and try to learn from ur mistakes.

      MR.smart

        Cool! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Ronnie!

This was an excellent video for people who are scared to speak english, it might be a little bit advanced to pronounce the words correctly but if you snap out of the fear that lives inside you then it could be a little difficult to use the language. And I’m one of them who dont dare to speak that much, but after this, I am a little bit more confident, I’ll try to use my english even more! Thank you.

azianstyle1

But do you have any suggestions for those who pronounce it all wrong? I’ve got some problems with the pronounciation but when it comes to writing then I’m pretty good at it.

azianstyle1

Your English comment is great!! For pron. just try to listen and repeat English words and phrases!

    Ronnie

Hi Ronnie!

Hi Ronnie!

Thanks for your compliment, it was really fenomenal to hear that. But the thing is, I’ve got one more question for you, and that’s about the Grammarly function. I don’t know exactly how it is constructed but I know that I’ve written an essay, handed it in to my teacher, got an A but yet the Grammarly said that I’ve written it all wrong… I dont quite understand, I thought my english teacher was educated for teaching out english? Am I wrong?

Thank you…

azianstyle1

You would have to ask your teacher! I have no idea!

hi.what is love…and what is like i want know your idea.pls

yusif

Love = very strong emotion that takes time to develop.
    Like = something/one that you don’t hate!

    Ronnie

TEACHER RONNUIE WHECE BOOK YOU ADVISE IN SHORT TIME I CAN LEARN AND QET MORE THEN PRACTIC…

yusif

I suggest reading a children’s book if you want to read something in English! The books do not have a lot of words, so you can gain confidence and learn new vocabulary!

If your reading skills are more advanced, you can get a “Penguin Reader”. Penguin is the name of a publisher that makes books for English students!

    Ronnie

Hi Roonie! I am watching your video lessons and I love ’em a lot. I am studing English for almoast five years but I haven’t read a book in English yet.I tried to read the book ‘Pride and prejudice’ but it seamed too difficult for me…it has a LOT of ‘old’ words…so can you recommend an interesting and contemporary book? I will appriciate a lot!!!
      Thank you

      Adelina

SORRY MY SPAEKINQ QOOD BUT WHEN I WRITE I DO MANY MISTAKE,IT IS SHY 4-ME.

yusif

I cannot thank you enough… your class is awesome … i love it so much…. all of you, this site is really nice…. there’s a thing that you said in this video that used to happen with me , in my conversation class i was so shy , and i just didn’t talk with anyone …. and then , i saw that i was lossing my class because I had afraid about they can think about me if I did a mistake … but now, I talk to them so easy , sometimes we do a mistake it’s really normal , as you said “if a teacher of English makes a mistake, why can I do that?” … Just thank you for your classes

douglas fritzen

ces

Thanks alot miss ronnie,,,you are delivering so simply which i never seen a teacher could do.

yasirmeraj

My dear Ronnie,
Pls, Tell me the usage of “of course” & “why not”.

EI NYEIN HAN

Of course we ONLY use when someone asks us a “stupid question”= a question that has an obvious answer! Ex…. If you are eating pizza and someone asks you “Do you like pizza”, you can say “Of course”! Of course is like saying YES to a question!
“Why not” is also like saying yes, but we use it when someone asks us to go somewhere or do something. Ex..Do you want to go to the movies? “Why not”,,,,this means YES!

    Ronnie

Hi Ronnie..I like to comment in your videoo bcoz you’re always reply our comment..Actually I’d like to tell you my problem in English conversation and I hope you could give me a word about it..Actually I can’t pronounced “H” word when I speak English or any language which start with “H” letter like her,help,etc..So,when I speak peole will hear like er,elp, etc…Do you think it’s a major problem for or I still can speak english fluently eventhough I can’t pronounce the letter “H”?

jumat

I will try to make a video on this for you! What country are you from?

    Ronnie

Hi Ronnie!, thanks so much for your tips. Sometimes when I speak english, I don’t find the correct words to comunicate correcty and I can’t maintain a fluent conversation.. I try to adquire new words and vocabulary, but that’s not enough..! :D

Hola Ronnie, ¿cómo has estado?

Muchas gracias. I can understand what you wrote! Good luck!

Your problem is that you THINK you can’t remember but I’m sure you can!!! Try to memorize sentences\phrases not just words. If you can remember phrases, it is easier to answer people’s questions!

I love Canadian pronunciation and sound like them. Sometimes friends say you making your mouth as the American do. You know over here people learn and talk in English but their pronunciation is same as their mother language. But I learn and speak like the native speakers. I dream to visit your country one day.

Hi Ronnie. Can you make a lesson about phrasal verbs? It’s too difficult, I think. Is it necessary to memorize all of them ? For instance, fix up and fix have different meaning. What should I do to learn them ?

rally93

It is impossible to memorize them all. You should watch movies/tv to know what phrasal verbs we actually use!

    Ronnie

Do you know, Why I’m excited to learn English more? because Mrs. Ronnies is funny :D I’m interesting to open the Engvid website every day to be the first person who know new lesson here. Thanks a lot of all teacher :D

ilhamhimawan

Thank you for this advice, it’s very important for me as no native speaker, always I’m shy when I try to speak English, many ideas come into brain, but no result; my conversation is sterile… but after this engvid, I’ll be different, I ‘m gonna speak high , without any complex, and I ‘m gonna look at the other eyes…

Hello Ronnie, many tnx, ur lesson is very informative. Can you help me with this? I have a burden to some of our church leaders, by the way i’m emma from the Philippines, they say the world’s second English speaking nation, How is the best way to correct the pronunciation of a person speaking in English, i feel irked every time i am hearing the wrong pronunciation of them. Tnx a lot!

emma

Correcting people is difficult but you can say “ummmm….I think the word is (correct pronunciation).
OR you can say…What? Sorry, I don’t understand that word….(then correct them)! Hopefully the person will realize that they made a mistake and want to correct themselves!!

    Ronnie

Thanks Ronnie … good job

Mostafa

Teacher your great! thank you. I suggest that you have to make a new video about the appropriate using of subordinate conjunctions. because most of the people here at my country have a difficulty to use some clauses and conjunction..even me when we speak continues in english as our second language.

masterasis

Hi teacher Ronnie this is my first time watching this kind of lessons online. I’ve been looking for this because I have my difficulties in pronunciation. I really need this for my new work. I need to have a good pronunciation, grammar, articulation of the word, and confidence in speaking English since I’m working in consulting firm, for training, team building and as a marketing officer through phone. Thank you so much Ma’am Ronnie. This video really help me for improving my confidence sales marketing. I love you Ronnie. :)

I am a new student. I love your manner of teaching (I’m a teacher but not of english :-)). Thank you very much for these videos which are very interesting. I hope that i’ll be a good speaker of this fantastic language. Thanks a lot and take care. Sincerly H.B

hafsia2007

Namastay Ronnie,

First of all I just want to say that you are the best.

————
What’s your problem?
What is your problem?

In above two sentences, is first sentence represent “rudeness” (I am not talking about expressions, I am just talking about in written language).
If yes, then what is the polite way to ask this?

ex – What is your issue?
What happened?

etc.

—————-

As per my opinion –

I am having….

is incorrect, because am and have both are helping verbs. ( for example – was/is, were/are, Has/had, have/had, will/has, shall/have never comes together in a single words)*

Single words means a simple sentence like ” I have a pan ” Not ” I am having a pan”

But many times in English movies and songs I found have with “ing” forms.

I request please clear this to me…

Thanks a lot :)

Bye.

sachintyagi

There is no difference really between what is or what’s in writing or speaking except we ALWAYS say what’s (not what is). However, neither are rude/more polite.
You will hear a lot of strange words in music/tv/movies because these are art forms and they never follow English grammar rules!

    Ronnie

Ronnie, thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it.

      1. I’ll always use “what’s” not “what is”.
Can I use it in official email sometime ?(email to my boss in office) :)

      2. Can I use ‘art forms’ in official language.

Actually my all concern about official language.
I am above average English speaker.
I speak good formal English in front of my friends but at the time of presentation in my office, I need to think about proper word (official words with correct grammar) which shows the lack of confidence.

Actually here in India, recruiters focus on correct grammar and pronunciation at the time of interview.

In short my question is, as per your opinion, Is it okay to use “art forms” and “what’s” words in official Email’s and verbal communication.

      Sachin

It is best to use what is, if your boss is very formal. If not, just use what’s.
Art forms is a proper word!

        Ronnie

          Thank you so much Ronnie.

          and

          Happy Deepawali. o=:)

          Sachin

Namastay Ronnie!

The best thing about you is that you are very funny. :D

I mean it a good way…I love to watch your expressions…

A bulb can’t Light other bulb but a Candle ( Teacher ) can Light other Candles ( Students )…..and you are like a candle for us

So thank you so much…

hgd :)

sachintyagi

OOPS…I mean in a good way. :)

tanya

how to speak english very well?

Fatemeh1375

Good! it was really helpful

Barakatullah Rasooli

Thank You Ronnie!

I must say though, I find it amusing that when you speaking in English with English speaking person you have to look them in the eye; I have experienced that here in South Africa; but the funny thing is that in our Zulu culture they find it rude to look a person in the eye, more especially, for the youth towards the elders. You are suppose to speak and do EXACTLY as you’ve just shown your example on this video, which is to look side to side, and up and down, even scratching yourself lol lol lol!!!

Nevertheless, thank you very much, this will help me as i’m looking to improve on my conversation, and I must admit, I am afraid to make them mistakes! But with these points I can try to be better

Sbonelo

Thank you very much Ronnie! You are best teacher on the world!!!

I sometimes feel very nervous to talk to someone who doesn’t look friendly. However, I have to talk to them in a hospipal, banks, stores etc; I am really uncomfortable with this situation and feel miserable. If a person who is nice and friendly talks to me in a office, I say to her,” You are very nice and friendly, and you made my day.”

CindyH

Ronnie, I am shocked to hear what your boss said to you about ” peko peko” or the kind of similar sounds that you said. I think most likely people live in Hokkaido use that image because I never heard of it.

Hi Ms. Ronnie,
What if I’m teaching someone then I want to know if she have understood? For example, she’s asking me the meaning of a word then I explain it to her. What is the most appropriate question I should use? a. Do you understand? b. Did you understood? c. Have you understood? d. none of the above.. or are there other ways to politely ask that? Thank you in advance Ma’am! :))
