food
is one of the most common conversation topics for people while on break. By knowing how to talk about food, you will feel more confident in conversational situations and have more to add to conversations. Understanding common vocabulary and expressions about food can help your listening in these situations. In this video, you will learn ways to begin a natural conversation about food. You will also develop an awareness about North American food culture – what is a potluck
, what is the difference between gluten-free
, vegetarian
, and vegan
? What about bacon donut ice cream?

Hi Emma, it’s a gr8 vid as previous videos.
Could you make a video on “same spelled but pronounce differently “when they use as verb or as noun. Ex. Bow (bau) and bow (bo) .
“Food Fad” was my doubt but I have just understood its meanings because I didn’t remember any comments about “food fad” in the Video Class, maybe a lapsus or distraction in my listening, I don’t know exactly why…Thanks a lot teacher Emma, it is always a pleasure to learn English with you.
Nice video again. Please also do a lecture on words we use in Pashto language but we don’t know the precise words for them in English. Thanks in advance!
Nice topic to talk about this to my friends indeed.thanks for this lesson mam.
Thank you
Hi Emma! Many thanks for adding the new words in my vocabulary. Hangry is amazing and thoughtful. I haven’t heard about a potluck before your lesson. And I haven’t difference between vegans and vegetarians. Tks!
Thanks for the useful lesson about food. Food is one of the most often used topics in conversation. I learned new words today, for example, food fad, hangry, vegan, etc. EngVid videos are always helpful to improve our ‘feel’ of English.

Dear Emma Great Lesson
Great topic, I love food!
As always, a really useful and fruiful lesson. But I believe there is a proverb in my country (Poland). When dog eats it doesn’t bark.
I would rather anyone didn’t bother me while I’m eating. But it’s just only me. However, It doesn’t look glamorous when you talk with full mouth.
All the best :)
Good! Poland.
Great lesson, i need to train my hearing and your videos are helping me a lot, thanks.

Hi Emma,
Thanks a lot for your „nourishing“ lesson. You´re truly right that food is frequent and popular topic at work, I can confirm it. Especially when people are hungry. And a small note of mine for everyone: don´t be afraid of insects as a food – when it´s fresh and prepared correctly it´s really delicious!
