Is it correct that I explain “in/ on the news” with the idea of this lesson? which one is common?
For example, what’s the difference between “She is in the news.” and “She is on the news.”?
In this context, “She is in the news” means she did something to attract public attention and so the media is featuring a story about her.
“She is on the news” means that she is being shown or talked about on TV, probably right now.
Hope this helps! All the best.
Thank you very much, Rebecca!
You got 10 correct out of 10.

Dear Rebecca, thank you so much. I known English 25 years ago and use English in my business but today I only know this rule.
We never stop learning when it comes to languages, right? So glad I could help you. All the best!
Hello,I hope you doing well madame.
Well,I have something to consultancy it with you, and I want to know your answer, here in Iran I see so many students who after going to english institutes for about 4 years still have plethora of difficulties in front of their way for talking even listening ,writing and etc.here the top sources are : interchange,landmark,top-notch,summet and etc.and the process are like reading out all pages memorizing vocabs chossing a topic and partcipating on freechats. what do you urge for learning english better, how it is like there in canada, what are the sources, what is the best way of teaching, you know in most european countries student are fluent after being graduated from university, what are the best methods, which are the best books, I wana chane all ways :) thanks in advance I am waiting for your replay.
There are many factors which affect students’ ability to pick up a language – external factors like teachers, materials, facilities, etc and internal factors like motivation and stress.
We use many of the same materials you have mentioned in Canada too, but perhaps the style of teaching is different. There are generally no exams in private language schools so the pressure is off, and this enables the brain to shift to an optimum mode and learn more easily. The environment is more open, relaxed and friendly, teaching methods are creative and practical and there is usually a warm relationship between student and teacher. Also, class size is generally small – from 8 to 18 students, and this makes an immense difference.
Also, you cannot learn a language only by reading and listening. You must have the chance to speak and write.
In addition, it is a completely different experience to learn a language in a country where the language is spoken outside the classroom. That is why thousands of students travel to Canada to learn English – so they can immerse themselves in the language 24/7 and finally start using the language everyday and making it part of their identity.
This is also why students learn effectively from engvid lessons – no pressure and no one is forcing you to watch. The motivation comes from each learner and that’s a brain-friendly way to improve.
So much more that can be said on the subject…in any case, thanks, and my best wishes to you!
Great lesson, thanks a lot my teacher. I have gotten 90 persen/100 persent.

Rebecca, I would learn to write in English to say that I’m admiring and enjoying their classes. Words fail me to praise his work, his ability to convey knowledge; You speak clearly and you’re one of the few people that I can understand without subtitles. I want to thank you immensely for me to be giving the opportunity to learn a little about this language. Congratulations, you are fabulous! (ps: I used google to write … but hopefully soon not need!)
Thank you for your kind words, even through google translate! I am sure you will soon be able to write without it, as it seems you have a lot of wonderful thoughts to convey. You will find a way! My best to you.

Hello Rebbaca and Engvid, For quick learning
thank you very mutch Rebecca.
thanks a lot , it’s very helpful in my feature life .. again and again i’m saying thanks for this program ..
Again and again, I wish you all the best!
Thank you for unravelling the mystery of the IN/ON for us! Great lesson!
As for the most common question here “he was killed IN the play” – I guess that a play is not an electronic device, therefore IN is correct. Also, a play was written on(?) paper prior to its staging so when he was killed, it was written IN the play :) … or I am totaly out ;)
You got it right, my friend. Good for you and thanks so much for helping out, for watching and for your kind words. My best wishes to you.

hi rebecca ! thank’s , your lesson is very helpful , but i would repert to you that we do not always have a sentence which talked about electronic or about paper . for example :
what we could do in these sentences !!
-The boat is (in/on) the water
-We are (in/on) the planet
-We’re going to the concert (in/on) July 1st
i hope to answer me as soon as possible . Thank you :)
Yes, these are other situations which were not discussed in this particular lesson. I recorded a lesson several years ago on using in, at and on to describe time. You can watch it here:

This video is brilliant.
The search for the correct usage of the prepositions ‘in’ and ‘on’ has been my knight’s quest for last months.
There are plenty of resources on internet about it, but always within the scopes of time and place, and, unfortunately, nothing outside those scopes.
I’m looking forward for more videos about this specific topic.
hello dear Rebecca , my best instructor
first of all, appreciate you for running this fantastic and useful site, secondly I would ask you an inquiry , which preposition should we use between two words that they are same? for example: we say : hand in hand but we say step by step and we say word to word or word by word , has it a specific rule.
I look forward to hearing from you soon and appreciate you a prompt reply
regards
ali

Hi, Rebecca! Thank you very much for your lessons! They are very helpful. I work in IT and have to write bug reports. When I describe the steps to reproduce a bug what prepositions do I have to use with such words as “tab”, “page”, “pane”? For example:
1. This button is placed in the “Edit” tab (on, at?).
2. Pay attention to the details on the right hand pane (in, at?).
Thanks in advance!

For example;
1. I am interested ” in” english. (Why it has to use ” in ”)
– Can I use on or at ?
2. How should we focus ” on ” results?
– Can I use in or at ?
3. I am good ” at ” english.

Hello Mam, how i use in, or, at, to the subject like for example- in the closet or at the closet. or on the closet.
Hi , I have a doubt !
Julius Caesar is killed ______ the play.
whats is “play” means ?
It’s like a theater !
A play is the performance you go to see in a theatre. (Does that make sense?)
