Spouse
, partner
, significant other
, husband
, wife
, better half
, lover
, girlfriend
, boyfriend
, couple
, and common-law
are just some examples of relationship terms we’ll be talking about in this video. I will teach you why some people might prefer the term partner instead of husband or wife. We will also discuss what people call the family of their husband or wife. For example, what does the term in-law
mean and how do we use it to describe our partner’s family? After you’ve watched this lesson and learned what we call people we are in a relationship with when talking about them, watch Ronnie’s lesson to learn what we call them when talking TO them!

in italian language we have two words:
sposo ( male ) and sposa ( female ).
bye
Thank u for useful lessons… I just want to ask you about ” girlfriend or boyfriend which they are not in relationship. But I saw many times when I watch forensic files a English TV show they called female friends to girlfriend.. Sounds weird but in places it’s common..
Yes, sometimes it is used for female friends. But it is never used for a guy’s female friend, and guys don’t use “boyfriends” to describe male friends.
When a girl/woman talks about a “girlfriend”, it is often hard to tell if they are talking about a close friend, or the person they are dating. For example, here is a recent article about two women who met while working on the TV show Girlfriends (which is about four female friends). They were girlfriends (friends) for a long time, then became girlfriends (in a relationship), then got married. It can be confusing!
I’d like to know the meaning of your site’s name “engVid”.
10/10
Thanks
