Have you heard of the type of poetry and literature known as parody
? Not sure what it is exactly? In this class, I’ll explain what parody is by showing you an example of a poem that is a parody. This is where one writer takes an earlier, well-known piece of literature, and imitates it in a humorous way. So basically, it’s a literary joke! My example comes from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, by the famous Victorian writer, Lewis Carroll. I hope you enjoy it! If you do, make sure to watch more of my poetry & literature series of classes.

Thanks Gill !
Good afternoon. I have not read these poems before and you interested me in these authors, their biographies, works as all your previous videos. I learned something new about English Poetry and Literature. Thank you Gill. I noticed a funny moment, the negative hero is a crocodile (mentioned as him) and the positive one is a bee (she). Is this an accident, the thoughts of the authors or a feature of the English language? I think it’s a little unfair. I’m waiting for your new videos.
Very good comment of Alexai and I just add “thank you”, Gill.
Thanks Gill. I will read both poems with my daughters
Thanks for the lesson

As in Chinese poetry, the last word rhymes as well. Thank you for your teaching and make me learn western poetry.
Hello! I’m a Chinese too!
