Hello my dear teacher! It was a very useful lesson. I hope you read my comment because I have an important question.
I have a huge problem with some Words as like: every body, every thing, nobody, nothing, somebody, something. I actually mean that I get confused and I do not know that the verbs after them must be in plural form or singular.
For example: Every body knows this subject or Every body know this subject.
Nobody lends you a pen or Nobody lend you a pen?
Thank you very much my pleasure teacher.
Mehdi 2022
Thanks for your kind words and very good question, Mehdi. You will find the answer in Alex’s lesson:

Rebecca
Hallo Rebecca,
nice lesson as all the others of you.
I´m often thinking, if present perfect is a present or past tense. It is the tense, that includes the past as well as and the presence. Therefore it is a little tricky.
Than
adrijana
Yes, the present perfect includes the past and the present. For example:
I have lived in this city for 10 years.
In this example, you lived there in the past and you live there in the present. So it includes both.
Similarly,
I have lost my pen.
This means you lost your pen in the past and it is still lost.
.
Hope this helps! All the best to you, adrijana. How wonderful that you speak so many languages!
Rebecca
It’s always a pleasure to learn English with you. You always explain very well! Thank you very much Rebecca! You’re amazing!

benzouhir88
A great lesson thanks. I scored 10. I just want to say something about the fourth sentence. I’m just a learner but isn’t it a past simple? Not present perfect? Thanks again Rebecca you’re a great teacher. ❤️
Jude Benyamin
Hello! It’s present perfect because the day is still going on. It’s not a finished time in the past. It would be past simple if, for example, the question was: “Did you see Sybil yesterday?” I hope that answers you question!
Valderí Andrade
“I hope that answers your question!”
Valderí Andrade
Thank you so much. That’s kind of you to reply to me. ❤️
Jude Benyamin
Anytime!
Valderí Andrade
Thank you so much I got all of them correctly

So you´ve been teaching for more than twenty-five years, teacher Rebecca. I´m surprised. You´re an inspiration. As you said, time is precious. We´d better not waste it. Someday I´ll meet you all, teachers from engVid, whose lessons have helped me so much. And as much obsessed as I am with Canadian culture, I might even end up settling down around there somehow. Thanks for the great lesson. Have a good day.
Emanoel Pereira
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and wishes, Emanoel. It means a lot. Please do write to us if you make it to Toronto. We would be happy to meet you too. Rebecca
It has been a very great lesson about the past and present tenses, a very useful review, check, revise or reread but what about the future, I think the future maybe a little more complicated, anyway we can follow to study verb tenses and give our opinion why we use them in our sentences. Thanks a lot, teacher Rebecca, your aid and comprehension are very important to us, you understand our mistakes and you revise them very carefully, it is a great detail from you.

samir585
It´s a doubt at the movie she said:
“The verb to understand can´t be used in the continuous form.”
But at 11:30 she says:”You are your own teacher, so as you get better at understanding”
Is it wrong The form she did say at 11:30?
Fabio Zotti
It is correct to use the word understanding in this way. Please see my reply to marcoroma above.
What you cannot say is:
I am understanding you.
He is understanding me.
In those cases, you should say:
I understand you.
He understands me.
Hope this helps. All the best to you, Fabio.
Rebecca
in this case understanding is a noun, not a verb
zetorka

Is number 4 really an example of Present Perfect Tense like teacher write in red letters?
kweros
As I explained in the lesson, number 4 is about both present perfect and past simple. So really, you need to review both those tenses if you made a mistake there. Hope that helps to clarify the issue. All the best to you, kweros.

Did you found
Have you found (correct).
Hi :)

Hello
I’m having a bit of a hard time understanding the perfect continuous aspect and the difference betw past perfect continuous said to be used for short periods of time. As the present continuous is also used for long periods of time thus why we use verbs that last a long time. For example few months /years is not a short period while 3minutes 1hour is.Could you explain the diferences plz?

Sally Brazilian Student
why( did you found your cellphone?) is incorrect?
yoshaa
Hello Yoshaa! The right question is “Have you found your cellphone (Present Perfect Tense)?
We use this tense to express actions that began in the past and somehow are still related with the present.
I hope it helps you! Bye for now!

Thank you so much for such useful lesson, but I have got confused about the first sentence in you example. I mean “It rains all day yesterday”. Why we should use Past Simple here and not Past Continuous? The rain it is a process and it needs time, especially when we see “ALL DAY”. I would say “It was raining all day yesterday”. Or maybe when i see the word “YESTERDAY” it is some kind of marker that in that case it must be ONLY Past Simple regardless any other circumstances? Thank you:).

Thanks for your kind words and very good question, Mehdi. You will find the answer in Alex’s lesson:
https://www.engvid.com/english-grammar-subject-verb-agreement-each-every-any-some/
This older lesson of mine may also help you:
https://www.engvid.com/english-errors-someone-anyone-no-one/
As you will see, all the words you have asked about are regarded as singular. Check the lessons to strengthen your understanding! All the best to you.

Hallo Rebecca,
nice lesson as all the others of you.
I´m often thinking, if present perfect is a present or past tense. It is the tense, that includes the past as well as and the presence. Therefore it is a little tricky.
Than
Yes, the present perfect includes the past and the present.
It’s always a pleasure to learn English with you. You always explain very well! Thank you very much Rebecca! You’re amazing!
Thank you kindly, Marylou. Always a pleasure with wonderful, motivated, and appreciative viewers like you. My best wishes to you.

Very good, Rebecca. It’s great to learn English with you. Thank you so much.
thank you very much rebecca for your useful lesson .my best salutation from morrocco
A great lesson thanks. I scored 10. I just want to say something about the fourth sentence. I’m just a learner but isn’t it a past simple? Not present perfect? Thanks again Rebecca you’re a great teacher. ❤️
Hello! It’s present perfect because the day is still going on. It’s not a finished time in the past. It would be past simple if, for example, the question was: “Did you see Sybil yesterday?” I hope that answers you question!
“I hope that answers your question!”
Thank you so much. That’s kind of you to reply to me. ❤️
Anytime!
Thank you so much I got all of them correctly
Thanks a lot

So you´ve been teaching for more than twenty-five years, teacher Rebecca. I´m surprised. You´re an inspiration. As you said, time is precious. We´d better not waste it. Someday I´ll meet you all, teachers from engVid, whose lessons have helped me so much. And as much obsessed as I am with Canadian culture, I might even end up settling down around there somehow. Thanks for the great lesson. Have a good day.
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and wishes, Emanoel. It means a lot. Please do write to us if you make it to Toronto. We would be happy to meet you too. In the meantime, enjoy your days, your books, your music, and the energy of your home country. It’s a special honour to hear from a fellow teacher like you. All the best, my friend.

Thank you Rebecca for useful lesson! It’s good opportunity to revise and remember tenses grammar!
Thanks, astapik. So glad you found the lesson helpful. The tenses are so important! I wish you all the best.
It has been a very great lesson about the past and present tenses, a very useful review, check, revise or reread but what about the future, I think the future maybe a little more complicated, anyway we can follow to study verb tenses and give our opinion why we use them in our sentences. Thanks a lot, teacher Rebecca, your aid and comprehension are very important to us, you understand our mistakes and you revise them very carefully, it is a great detail from you.
that’nice
Thanks
Thanks Rebecca. Great lesson. I need review the past perfect.

I correct 7 out of 10.
Sorry Rebecca but about at 11:35 did not you say: “understanding”? I must assume that the -ing form is allowed in other contests?
Yes, you’ll get better at understanding this subject, you’ll get better at solving this problem, you’ll get better at speaking English…
This form is correct and can certainly be used. I wish you all the best, marcoroma.

Thank you very Much Ma’am.
It´s a doubt at the movie she said:
“The verb to understand can´t be used in the continuous form.”
But at 11:30 she says:”You are your own teacher, so as you get better at understanding”
Is it wrong The form she did say at 11:30?
It is correct to use the word understanding in this way. Please see my reply to marcoroma above.
What you cannot say is:
I am understanding you.
He is understanding me.
In those cases, you should say:
I understand you.
He understands me.
Hope this helps. All the best to you, Fabio.
in this case understanding is a noun, not a verb
I got 6 of 10 :( I need to study more, it was so complicated for me but that’s the reason that i been studying here, thanks Rebeca.

By the way, I would like to ask a question.
‘The survey is about the customer satisfaction on food and services’ is this sentence correct? After ‘satisfaction’ we should use what preposition? on? with? of?
A better sentence would be:
The survey is about customer satisfaction with food and services.
All the best to you, Sophie.

Is number 4 really an example of Present Perfect Tense like teacher write in red letters?
As I explained in the lesson, number 4 is about both present perfect and past simple. So really, you need to review both those tenses if you made a mistake there. Hope that helps to clarify the issue. All the best to you, kweros.
7. __________ your cellphone?
Did you found
Have you found (correct).
Hi :)
Can anybody explain why “Did you found your cellphone?” is wrong?
Thanks.
It would be correct if it was: Did you found your cellphone yesterday? We use present perfect when something happened recently and there is not any particularly time.
Quick correction: “Did you find your cellphone yesterday?”
Thank you too engVid Moderator :)

Thanks Teacher.
Thanks Teacher
Thanks a lot Rebecca!
I got 10/10. Thanks for explaining.
I GOT 10/10. Thanks
