in case
mean? When do we use it? In this video, you will learn about this commonly used expression. This lesson is part vocabulary and part grammar. After watching, you will be able to use in case
properly in a sentence, which will be very useful for expressing a request, a condition, a particular event, and more. Take my quiz at the end of the video to practise using in case
. You can watch the video more than once in case you forget something.

I made a mistake question 7;Thank you very much!
I also chose the first option instead of the second
Dear Emma, thanks a million for this lesson.
I’m a bit confused about the first question of the quiz.
In your video you said that the problem part of the sentence has to be in the present. However, the verb ‘forget’ is in the past form ‘forgot’. Could you explain It, please?
I agree with Yurgen
I don’t get your question. Would you mind explain it? I am a bit confused about understanding your problem. But I think I understand the lesson. I don’t have any confusion.

I’m going to the beach today. I will bring sunscreen __________ my friend forgot hers.
Am I right there is a mistake with past tense forgot after in case? It should be present tense forget. =)
I noticed it too.
I think so, haahah
Emma said “use after in case/just in case present tense”. You are right I guess.
Famous last words: a new battery… just in case…
Many thanks, Emma!
☺?? english language is easy when you have a teacher like you are
Right :)
hi Emma,
while I was listening a 6 minute english podcast of bbc I heard a sentence, “I was worried for a bit in case he’d escaped.”
they used past perfect after in case. could you explain this for me.
thanks..
I don’t think you heard in case he’d escaped. He’d here is a contraction for he would not he had so it must be followed by infinitive not past participle.
7. I always have extra food and water in my apartment ________________.
in case zombies apocalypse
in case of a zombie apocalypse
why answer is in case of a zombie apocalypse?
I also didn’t catch why the answer of question 7 should be in case of a zombie apocalypse rather than in case zombies apocalypse.
Would you Emma be kind enough to explain why?
Thank you a lot
Acording to video A should be correct. I thought like ywg921. Could you explain it Emma
IN CASE OF = IF

Thank you for your great lesson, Emma.
I have a question about the quize No.1.
It says ” I’m going to the beach today. I will bring sunscreen __________ my friend forgot hers.” “Forgot” should be “forget” because after “in case” the tense should be the presnt. Am I right ?
yeah there is somebody thought like me
It is very useful for me. Thanks Emma.
So good! Thanks Emma!
thanks, six correct. I think it is good!!!
thanks Emma soooooooo much
Can you explain the Question 7 ? Thanks.
Thank you very much. I have a question:
I will bring sunscreen __________ my friend forgot hers.
you said it is always present tense after “in case”
Is there any exception??
Thank you Emma.

I bookmarked this page just in case I forget the correct grammar.
very usefull piece of vocabulary and so well explained
Thank you, Emma! Great lesson!
Thank you for your good lessons
I got 9 correct out of 10
Thank you Emma
why “just in case” have ” in case of” in there? from question 7
Thank you, Teacher Emma, this lesson was so useful.
I will watch your videos in case I improve my language.
Dear friend you misused the word in case. In this context, you should have used the expression in order to (le kai in Arabic) instead of in case. I will watch your videos in order to improve my language. not in case I improve my language. In case means in anticipation of something unpleasant or as Emma put it to prevent occurrence of unpleasant situations.
I brought an extra battery just in case it dies. lol
tks a lot!
Very good lesson.Thanks.
I got 90 because of “in case of a zombie apocalypse “.The grammar lesson wasn’t in the video and I didn’t know the meaning of apocalypse. I thought it’s a verb and Zombies was plural, so vocabulary helps a lot.
Oh! An apocalypse is like the end of the world, or some huge disaster that destroys everything. There are a lot of movies/TV shows/games (The Walking Dead, The Last of Us, etc.) about “zombie apocalypses” – where almost everyone turns into zombies, society collapses, and a few people have to learn how to survive. Or a story can take place much later, in a “post-apocalyptic world”, like the Mad Max movies or Fallout. I hope that helps?
Thank you so much, dear teacher.
Although it is a very good and a wonderful lesson
But…..Sorry I still don’t know why you consider (in case of)is the right answer instead of (in case) in question 7
Thank you for the lesson. I got 90 because of “in case of a zombie apocalypse”. I will review this lesson again, just in case I want to pass the test with 100 points.

Nancy

in case zombies apocalypse
in case of a zombie apocalypse
just in the case is zombie apocalypse
on case of zombie apocalypse (i don’t understand it)
in case zombies apocalypse(correct)
in case of a zombie apocalypse(wrong because it should be only in case or just in case. It is wrong because of “of”)
just in the case is zombie apocalypse(it is wrong because of the and is)
on case of zombie apocalypse (it is wrong because it shoul be in case and without of)
u say “in case of a zombie…” not in case of zombie cause u need the article.

Thank you very much Emma very clear your lesson
i like videos with this kind of useful phrase, thanks Emma
Thanks so much emma you are an excellent teacher. So good job emma.
I perfectly understood!!
Thanks Emma
Hi Emma. How would you tackle this grammatical point. Let’s assume that both the problem and the preparation were in the past. For instance, last year we went mountain climbing. We took a map in order not to get lost. So how would you say that in terms of (just in case)? Would you still use present tense in the problem part of the sentence? Which would sound correct ” in case we got lost”, or in case we would get lost”? Thank you in advance. All the best.
Thanks Emma nice and helpful, really great job.
Hi
quiz number 1 is incorrect. tense of the verb is past!!!!!
I made a mistake in 7th question. Can you explain me why the key of a) is not correct?? Thank you in advance!

I think that is mistake at first question
in case my friend forget not forget ?
ya, i think also ((forget)) on present tense. Not forgot in past tense .
Dear Emma, thanks a million for this lesson.
I’m a bit confused about the first question of the quiz.
In your video you said that the problem part of the sentence has to be in the present. However, the verb ‘forget’ is in the past form ‘forgot’. Could you explain It, please?
Thanks a lot
Thank you emma for this great lesson.
I watched all lesson just in case that could be useful in the future for me.
Thank you Emma ;)
There is one mistake in the first question . It should be present tense after in case , so forgot is wrong

In the first quiz there is a verb mistake. There would be a presemt tense not past tense.
“in case my friend forgets hers”…Alesia has seen the mistake first.
Marvellous lesson. It’s to my liking; moreover, it appeals to me. I got 100% out of 100. You are the be-all and end-al. Far thee well. dearest, Prof. H
