to have
in positive, negative, and question forms. The verb to have
is very important because it is used on its own and as a helping verb. If you’re a beginner, learn to use this important verb correctly from the start! If you’re more advanced, review the conjugation of “to have” to make sure you know this verb perfectly. Next, take the quiz and make sure you don’t have any mistakes!

Hello Rebecca , Hello everybody .
I often use “have” alone in negative and interrogative sentences .
Like ” have you anything for me ? ” or ” I haven’t anything for you ”
These are not well constructed but do these constructions can be heard from native in everyday speaking .
Thank you
See you
Hello , I´m sure that you can´t use “have” in the way you are using , because you need the auxiliary do.
Just a couple of question about the quiz Rebecca:
The question “Do you have the time?”, is it American or British English?
Could you please tell me how Canadians usually ask for the time?
Excellent video on the Verb To have. Your sunny personality made the lesson more engaging.
Terrific!
Yes, Regino, the expression is used in the States and Canada. Not 100% sure about England.
To be very clear, one could always ask:
Do you know what time it is?
Do you know what the time is?
These questions would be acceptable anywhere in the world. All the best!
Although technically correct, “have you” expressions by themselves are uncommon.
Normally, in American English, we would ask:
“Do you have anything for me?” In British English, it is common to hear, ” Have you got anything for me?” Hope this helps!

Dear respected teacher; I am considerably grateful for your great fruitful efforts which added a lot to me. I am hopefully seeking your help and I have many questions, namely:
1-I need your help to have a clear insight about confusing words such as company ,corporation, business, firm, establishment,authority, organization,assembly and association. please help to know when and where to use them effectively;
2-How many spaces should I leave to start a paragraph?
3-May I know when we say important to and important for? Is there any criterion or there is no difference?
4-Is there any rule that governs the pronunciation of the character ((A)),as sometimes it is pronounced as AA while other times it is pronounced as ey Million thanks in advance.
Thank you kindly for your comments. Unfortunately, I cannot answer your questions in this forum as they are all detailed points that require a lot of explanation. I can only tell you that if you are asking such questions, you have reached quite a high level of English. Congratulations, and all the best to you.
I am interested by your questions about confusing words. I use wordreference.com and linguee. Perhaps these dictionaries can help you. I don’t know what Rebecca thinks about these links on the web.
It’s a pleasure to read your good english.

Thank you very much for this great explanation about the verb “have”. You are an excellent teacher, Rebecca. HAVE a wonderful day!
Thanks! You too, Julio!
Thank you alot for your helpful video.
THANKS A LOT TEACHER
Brilliant lessons. Much appreciate it.
Could you pls explain the difference between “in regards with…” and “In terms of…”?
Especially I’d like to know when and how to use “in terms of…”.
Thanks in advance
Jadez
First of all, it is incorrect to say. “in regards with” or “in regards to”. However, you can say,
“Please give my regards to your family.”
You can use the expression correctly as follows:
In regard to your question,…
or
Regarding your question,…
or
In terms of grammar,…
The expressions are very close in meaning, when used correctly. All the best.
It useful as ever.Thanks Rebecca.
thanks
It is a little bit simple, but so useful. Thanks!
Hello Rebecca, Thanks for this lesson, I got 10/10.
Really, great! I just don’t understand, why we need use does or do with the have for being in the negative form.
Because we need to use a helping verb with the base verb and do is the helping verb we need to use. That’s just how it is! I know it is a bit irritating, but it’s best to repeat it out loud to yourself a few times till it starts to sound natural and necessary. Clearly, all languages do not behave this way, which is why you feel uncomfortable with it. But English does use a lot of helping or auxiliary verbs in this way for various purposes, so it’s best to get used to it. Hope that helps, Lanna147. All the best to you.
very good this video. thanks
Thanks Rebeca
thanks i got 10/10
Thank Rebecca you are a great teacher and i like you very much because i understand this lesson easily and got 10/10.
Thanks so much, Lkyzai and congratulations! I am so happy that you find the lessons helpful. It means a lot to us at EngVid to get such feedback. All the best to you, my friend.
Thanks *?
thanks
Hi, rebeca.
Why the 8 question is with “does” and no with “do”? ( I think is with “do” because we talk about “YOU” brother, no??
The subject in that example is “brother” and not “you” or “your”. It’s the same as:
Does he have an umbrella?
Hope that helps! All the best to you.
thanks so much
thank so much my tacher i got 10
Glad to know you all found the lesson useful, whether to learn it right the first time or as review. Many students at all levels continue to make mistakes with this very common verb, so make sure you don’t! Have fun! Have a good day! Have a great time!
Thank you so much my great teacher, I am not only praising you,but also describing your truth as a wonderful generous tutor.
Your words are fueling for me and thanks from the deepest point in my heart.
Thank you for your very generous comments. It means a lot to know that we are able to help students from around the world to master the English language. I can see that you are one who speaks from your mind and also your heart – I am sure, in all languages. My best wishes to you, manaltalab.
Good evening, Rebecca! Thanks for this reviewing lesson!
“Do you have any comments about this lesson?”, someone could ask.
Yes, I have reinforcements with this kind of lesson, even more considering the Rebecca’s direct teaching method and sympathy, and I don’t have any criticism about this video.
Yes, Fabio, you got it! Having taught thousands of students of ll levels for over 30 years, I can say that it never hurts to review the basics. Sometimes that’s where the troubles lie. So when we review and remind ourselves, we strengthen our knowledge and become fluent automatically, which is our goal – for the right words to pop out of our mouths the first time! I wish you all the best, Fabio.
of all levels, I meant
You are very welcome.
I wish you all the best too, Rebecca.
Thank you Rebecca.. It always good idea reviewing lessons even whether you are in advance level.
Thank you so much.

Hi Rebecca!
Thank you for the lesson. Your are rather didactic and clear as usual. My classmates and I have a lot of things to learn here, and Engvid has a lot of things to teach us… And I think it is wonderful!
See you in your next lesson!
Thank you for your kind words, Eduardo. It means a lot to us all to know that our viewers find the lessons helpful in their mission to master English. Clearly, you have already reached an advanced level – congratulations! I wish you all the best in your career, your English, and your life.
Thank you so much relay i learn something from this video.before i was lesson many English learning video by you tube but i think this very effected for me learning English .
Good, so glad to know the lesson helped you. Please watch the video as many times as you need to – until you feel it is very easy to say the right words. All the best to you.
Thank you so much for lesson. ^^~
oh thank you very much that is was a good lesson @Rbrcca
thank a lot
why “does your brother has a car?” is incorrect?
i see the correct was use “have”, not “has”..
thank you for the explain
When we ask a question, we go back to the base form of the verb, which is “have”. We only use “has” in the positive, or affirmative sentence:
He has
He doesn’t have
Does he have
These are the correct forms. Hope that helps!
I think does is a model auxiliary verb and with model auxiliary verb we always use the base form of the verb, just with model auxiliary not with auxiliary such as I has done his home work, Am I right Rebecca?
Thanks
I need more practice, but a like your lessons Rebeca! Thank you!!!
Practicing is the best way to master these basic verb forms. Then, one day, suddenly only the right words come out of your mouth! I wish you many such successful days for yourself an also for your students. It is always a special pleasure to hear from a fellow English teacher. All the best to you and all your students from all of us here at EngVid. Please check our Resource section – you may find useful information there to download free for your classes.
Thank you, I got 10/10
