will
, going to
, the present continuous
, and the simple present
. I will compare when and how we use these grammatical tenses to talk about the future. After you watch this lesson, quiz yourself to practice and make sure you get it. I know that you will do well.

I’m going to see my mom
tomorrow
Good review of future tenses Emma! It’s important to know when and how to use these tenses to convey our ideas propperly.
I’m looking forward to you next video lesson.
All the best.
What a great lesson! But can I also use “shall” in future tense? Or how is it used?
Is the 8-th answer correct ?
Sorry, I mixed UP IT.
yes, because
-He go to Chile. (the verb is written wrong)
-He will go to Chile. (It´s not a event far in the future)
-He goes to Chile. (“go to chile” isn´t a action scheduled)
I got 90 maybe it is I did it wrong too.
You solved my confusion about future tenses. Thank you, Emma.
We would like a lesson on (Will V.S Would),please!
Thank you !
I mistook 3 questions, so I’ll review your lesson and try this quiz again. Thank you Emma :)

Hi, Emma. HOW ARE YOU?.you are a good teacher. I like the way you explain.I have got the lesson clearly.Thank you very much
Thank you Emma, it was exactlly what i’ve been looking for. You’re the best
Iam going to improve my laguage
Thank you very much Emma!!!
I promise I´ll keep studying English with you ;)
I am little bit confused. In the book Angličtina na rovinu (Darren Crown) are three possibilities:
1)”When I retire in twenty years, I’il move to Tahiti.”
2)”When I retire in twenty years, I’m going to move to Tahiti.”
3)”When I retire in twenty years, I’m moving to Tahiti.”
There is explanation, that sentences are correct. Difference is in the decision. There was recommendation about future (don’t use explanation like near or far future… ).
Hi Dzarda,
In fact it’s only a grammar rule.
When the main clause of a sentence uses a future tense, then present tense must be used with the time clause.
If we look at your example 1).
”When I retire in twenty years” –> time clause (present tense)
“I’ll move to Tahiti.” –> main clause (future future tense)
One more example ; it won’t start until you switch on the button.
Hope it helps.
Hey Emma I miss 4 l’ll review your lesson and retake the quiz again. Learning so much from these lessons.
Thank you for this video ;)
Hello Emma . Thank you very much, this lesson get me rid of a thorny issue.
I was always confused with present continuous as a futur tense. All is clear now . Thank you again
Thank you so much Emma.
Emma , I listened to a related lesson from Ronnie about future tenses
https://www.engvid.com/tenses-in-english-future-or-present-continuous/
Ronnie says that if present continuous is used it is just because english natives are to lazy and suppress the ” going to ” and transform the base verb in ing form . However I find in books the use of present continuous as future tense . I thought all was clear but it is still a bit confusing . I am looking for your comment . Thanks in advance.
Sorry , I wanted to say : I am looking forward to your comment .
The future is clear now thank you Emma.

Awesome class, I’m going to get better in English.
Thank you,
Wow 10/10
Can present perfect tense use to talk obout future?
No, it can’t.
I’ve been to Korea.
She’s seen Titanic 4 times.
They’ve lived here for 4 years.
There’s no way for the present perfect to have a future meaning. These all have a past meaning with a connection to the present.
Thank you Emma.
I got 8 correct out of 10, my only mistake was questions 6 and 8. I should improve those topics. Thank you so much teacher. It is easy understand your lesson.

The great thing is that the best Engvid teachers are good friends. Thank you both Emma and Alex.
Emma is really great teacher and intelligent kind woman, but a bit lazy to post a comment. Fortunately Alex is a friend in need, true friend indeed. If I were on Alex’s position I would do the same.
The perfect feature of Emma’s lesson is that it useful for a wide spectrum of learners; the beginners and advanced learners as well. Alex is correct the use of the Present Continuous for the future actions is usually forgotten by students and teachers.
Emma thanks again.
Thank YOU :)
thank you

Thanks Emma. It’s very clear your explanation. But I still have a little doubt about using present continuous or to be going to inf. with very close future. For ex. I am meeting my Brother this evening OR I am going to meet my Brother this evening. There is evidence and a plan but it’s very very close…best way should be according to your video ” I am meeting ” correct? angie

Hi federer88
PRESENT CONTINUOUS- Very soon, near future
GOING TO- Near future but there must be a plan or evidence. like ,
1)It is going to rain ( There must be cloud- evidence)
2) I am going to movie( I have plan or ticket for movie)

I can give exemples with the good answers from the app

Thanks for the lesson. I have a question. Is it correct to use the Future Progressive instead of Present Continuous or “Be going to”? For example, Could I say “I’ll be studying tonight” instead of “I’m studying tonight” or “I’ll be studying English next month” instead of “I’m going to study English next month”? Thanks!

Emma, I have a question about this topic. You say that the difference between Present Continuous and going to + Verb is that the latter is used when we have evidences of something what is going to happen. Then, what about We’re getting married and We are going to get married? According to you, if we already know the date of our wedding and everything is almost arranged, ‘going to get married on the 27th of July’ should be used. However, I looked through many resources and they give the following example: ‘We are getting married on the 27th of July’. You prompt response will be very appreciated =)

I see some mistakes in the comments so I want to clarify that.If you state near future,it means ‘this week, this month, this year, this century/next week, next month, next year, next century etc.’.If you state far future,it means ‘three days later, fifty years later,in four weeks’.You may ask that how do we classify ‘next century’ as near future, but ‘three days later’ as far future.Yes,it doesn’t seem logically, but we sholud think in a gramatically way.Actually ‘three days later’ is nearer than ‘next century’.However,’this’ and ‘next’ make the time expressions nearer, even though we mean ‘next century, next year’.
I got 100.I love u Emma.
Thank you so much.. I got 100 ^^

I´m really CONFUSED. Acoording to your explanation it is not possible to say expressions like(I´ll be back, I will take that call, it will probably rain). I´ve been looking in grammar sites and the difference betweeen -will and going to- is not about near or far future. It is about the moment the decision about the future action is taken.
Who is Josh?
9 correct. Thank you Emma, I study and watch your video’s everyday.
I got 8 from 10.

Hi there how are you Emma?
Thanks for your lesson, I think you help me better understand usage of going to because I use (I thought) it only for express my uncertain activities in the nearest future. Now I have much clearer vision of usage this way of future tenses.
I am going to learn English at least 3 hours per every day. I know that because I bought a new refill for my pen and foremost I see progress in my English. And the most important I enjoy learning more and more.
