Ronnie, as you well pointed out negative questions create confusion even for native English speakers because there is room for ambiguity in the asnwers.

In my own language we say ‘but yes’ as contradiction to a negative question.

– Don’t you like pizza?
– But yes, I like it.
or
– No, I don’t like it.

In the second answer the word ‘No’ is just the repeating of the question (don’t) and clearly not a contradiction. By that way you’re never confused by negative questions.

The negative can also be used for rethorical questions: Don’t you love the spring? -> Everyone loves the spring – at least in my opinion. I don’t want to know actually if you do or not. I may not even expect an answer and continue talking.

Please, somebody who understood the lesson explain me why in №8 there is the answer “Yes, I am” ?
If we have this negative question like confirming the answer then the first question was ” Are you thirsty?” and the answer had to be: ” No, I am not”.

Then there appears that confirming question: ” Aren’t you thirsty?” and up to that the answer has already been “No, I am not”.

Why then is there the answer ” Yes, I am”??

– “No, I am.”
What is that ?!! it is the same for me, both of it is a right answer, we can say ” yes,I am.” if I am thirsty and “no,I am.” if I am thirsty too.
Negative question is so bad to understand that means
