Have you noticed that when native speakers talk quickly, they often shorten their words or even completely delete some sounds? This makes it challenging for English learners to understand fast speech, because the words are not pronounced in full. In this lesson, I will teach you about the silent H
and how to recognize it to understand fast speech. I will also show you how to cut out the H at the beginning of certain words in order to sound more like a native English speaker. Improve your pronunciation by using the silent H
, and see how much of a difference it can make!

Thanks man. Great as usual.
Sound deletion and reduction are a real problem for language learners, especially for beginners, not to mention blendings. They make it harder for us to understand the stream of speech.
Hello James, where is the quiz?

This lesson is pretty easy but I have learned something new today,Thanks James!

Hello every one. How’s every thing going?
Friends & dear James; I have a question, please help me. I would like to know the meaning of jaws in this sentence: …by the bloodthirsty jaws.
When I search in dictionary, I find these synonyms for it: chat, talk
But I can’t understand the relation these meaning with top sentence. James, if you read my comment, please help me. And you friends if you know the answer, help me.
Thank you.
I don’t know the exact word to define it! but to make you kinda get it.. “mouths” of sharks maybe! depending on Bloodthirsty! actually there is a movie named Jaws and it was about sharks! yeah however, hope that somehow helps you. *even though it’s too late!
Sorry; these meanings
Thank you!
Thank you teacher….!!
thanks so much, it is a nice topic to undestand better english!
Thank you so much!
That’s the useful tip of drop the H sound. I used to do it, thnx James.
I will have to listen to the video class again until realising when we have to use this deletion because I am not sure if it is used when we don’t emphasise the sentence or there is another reason for it. Normally I can identify this sound but the difficulty becomes when we can use it and why it is pronounced so short. I will continue inquiring on this topic. Thanks a lot, teacher James, it has been a good performance and explanation, we have the luck to learn English with excellent teachers and methods like Engvid.
your vids are alway good plz give me more so I can learn how to pronounce more words but thanks, I loved your vid by the way nice tips i can now use it in my writing. do you speak a bit of Spanish James?I’m just asking

Hi! It looks like you’re posting from China, where YouTube is blocked. You will probably have to use a VPN.
sorry,i don’t understand whata VPN i can use?
find VPN through Google or follow this site: https://dream.ren/ss.html
A VPN (virtual private network) is a service that lets you access websites blocked in your country. Here’s a list of a few that may work; here’s another.
