spelled
for the past tense of spell
, but you can also write spelt
. Both are correct, but one is used more in British English, and the other is used more in American English. Some of the pronunciations are also different, so I’ll be explaining that, too. By the end of the lesson, you will know which spelling to use when and how to pronounce the verbs. Be sure to complete the quiz after watching. Hi, Gill! Thank you for the lesson.Explain me, please, why there is “the” before “rice” in the sentence about “split”?
Hi – I used “the” because I was referring (in my imagination) to some particular rice, eg the rice that I have just bought at the supermarket, or the rice that I have just cooked, ready for a meal. I hope this helps to clarify :-)
Hello Gill! Thank you for the presentation, I understand there is two different pronunciation but it is grammatically correct if I use the UK way for the writing and the spelling?
