its awesome
Thank you for your useful lesson.
Thanks Gill for the nice lesson. This lesson will backup me in studying English and showed me backlog in my knowledge. But I have backbone to go forward rather than backward.
Hi! Nice to meet you. May I ask you about the background for your picture profile?
And I don’t think “backup” can be used as a verb.
Does anybody know?
Bye.
Dear Nataanna, you asked about my profile name. As a matter of fact I removed 453, because I thought it was an extra suffix. I feel it’s better now, isn’t it?
Dear nkh! It’s up to you. I hope I’ll recognize you if you change your profile completely (due to your manner of commenting). It might be challenging; how do you think?
No, I will never change my profile completely. If I want to do this, I’ll let you know. UNDOUBTEDLY ?
Sorry, I tried to say a joke. Not successfully. My words should be taken backwards. Have a nice day.
As a verb, it’s “back (someone/something) up”, and it has a few meanings. For example:
– Remember to back up (make a copy of) important computer files.
– The paper’s conclusions weren’t backed up (supported) by the data.
– The truck makes a beeping sound as it backs up (drives backwards).
Thank you very much for the explanation. It was backed up with examples; they helped me a lot.
I thought we had to use “with the data or by the person”. But it sounds better “by the data”. It confused me.
Thank you one more time.
You’re welcome! Glad I could help.
Hahaha It isn’t the 1st of April;)
Thank you my dear teacher for helping us
Excellent lesson, very useful, I like to learn compound words because they are very important and have a completely different meaning, thanks Gill greetings for you from Venezuela
You’re awesome
Useful lesson
Thanks
Nice and interesting video, thank you Gill.
It is really interesting lesson but I don’t understand the meaning of the last word :backwards. Anyway, thank you so much !!!
hi Quynh Anh — backwards means ‘in reverse’, like walking backwards instead of forwards, or rewinding a video.
Yeah,now i understand it. Thanks again :))
fabulous lesson and very useful :)
thanks gill

i didnt stand a bit
Many thanks Gill.
Great lesson!
Great lesson
Thanks
I really liked the word “backtrack”. I didn’t have to backtrack on this video before the quiz. Here in Colombia it might be a backlash if the government does not pay attention to significant issues around the country.
Really interesting point with the word “backside”, for us non native speakers.
Hopefully, i’ll backpack the world soon!!!
Thanks!
how can we usually use back in a routine life. Can er say “She had a problem in her backbone last year.”
hi — ‘backbone’ in a literal sense is mostly used in a medical context. If a person has back problems you would say ‘back problems’, ‘back pain’, ‘a bad back’, etc. The backbone is literally made of bone — the vertebrae. I hope this helps!
Please make a video about Nowruz.
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll add it to the list of requests, and we’ll see if a teacher wants to do a lesson on it.
What does Ty mean?
Hello friends! I’ve already forgotten about my holiday.
The only thing remains – the backlog. So pity.
Thank you Mrs. Jill for the lesson.
Hi nataanna,
tell us something about your holidays! Did you have a backpack? :)
Hi byte! No, I didn’t. But I had got a husband to back up me. And he had a backpack!
My vacation is over, unfortunately. I want the time to go backwards.
it means thank you
Hello Gill. Thank you a lot. As a old hand teacher, it was great. Good luck in your whole life.
NEW YEAR IS SO NEAR….????????
NOROUZ;coming soon??
I’m so so so happy…?
My congratulations! When it be? What’s the background of it? Do you have presents for the holiday? How do you celebrate it?
See you.
Hello Nataanna and SKIKDA, both dear friends. Thank you for your kindness.
Yes, I’m so happy. Because NOROUZ;Iranians’ New year is one of our best times, like Christmas.
NOROUZ is an ancient ceremony. It returns to Achaemenid Empire; maybe about 3000 years ago.
Actually we call the period of our new year’s holiday , NOROUZ . Its based on our culture. We have some interesting tradition in this time. For example we set Haft_seen tabletop, then all of the members of family sit around it and wait to change year. Haft_seen is a tabletop( sofreh) that includes somethings that are signs of health, merry year, wealth, etc.
In NOROUZ we visit our relatives and travel. Totally, it’s so enjoyable.
And it starts from new year’s first day and it ends in New year 13th. Actually it takes 13 days.
Now I want to say thank you for your help. Your country is so beautiful, while it hasn’t many historical places but it worths to visit. Thank you again.
I correct my mistakes;it’s based on…
We have some interesting traditions…
I forgot to say that in NOROUZ, olders give youngers money as handsel or present.
I used wrong words:
The old give the young money as handsel or present. And we buy new clothes too. It’s so important and enjoyable to buy new clothes for Bahar(or spring).
and i am happy for your happiness nkh

Thankfull to Jill & Ronnie for such friendly/easy way to speak english with correct pronunciation.
Looking forward for more lessons to learn advance English.
Very good! Thank you!
Backing, background, backtrack and backup maybe generate some doubts if you don’t have your concepts very clear, but there aren’t any problems with the teacher Gill’s explanations, it has been a very interesting class as always. Sometimes backing/background and backtrack/backup are ambiguous if you don’t have any experience with these words, I have listened to them in some situations and I have doubted with their meanings but here on this lesson, I don’t hesitate anymore. Thanks a lot, teacher Gill, a very interesting lesson.

I used to make a huge mistake so I did not when I had to use them but with the explanation, I am satisfied that I will be able to use them successfully. these are the words I learnt today. backing, back up, backlash, backlog, backwards, backbone, backside, I used to say bottom in case of backside.
