. You improve your speaking by knowing the most common questions English speakers use in conversation. Learn to speak more fluently by practicing saying these questions the way native speakers say them. I’ll give you a chance to listen and repeat after me. Some of the questions in this lesson include: Where are you from?
, Where were you born?
, Where did you grow up?

Thank you for your lesson,Alex, you help me listen and pronounce the questions correctly. At school we are learned grammar more listening and speaking skills. Now my pronunciation isn’t good,so my speaking skill is weak,i want to improve my speaking and listening.
Thank you for this conversational lesson, Alex! I repeated all these questions after you :) And got 10 correct out of 10. I really need more speaking lesson. I can read and listen English a bit, but I can’t speak at all. It is so embarrassing when I don’t know what to say and how to say.
Could you, please, correct me if I made mistakes in my comment.
“I really need more speaking lessons…It is so embarrassing when I don’t know what to say and how to say it.”
Thanks, Elena! Keep practicing. :)
Thank you for your answer! There were not so many mistakes. I am so glad :) I hesitated with this phrase “I can read English a bit” vs “I can read English a little” or “I can read a little English”…
I have added you in facebook :)
Why have you never mentioned your Google+ profile?
I don’t really use Google+. :)
Thanks.
You’re welcome. Thanks for clicking.
The questions were basic & easy, but on the contrary, their pronunciation is quite difficult, Alex!
Exactly. It seems simple, but it takes practice to make it perfect.
Thank you Alex it’s useful lesson for conversation
Exactly. :) I’m glad you found it useful!
Thank you very much Alex!!!
I didn´t know that you were from Poland ;)
I’ve mentioned it a few times in various lessons, but yes, I was born in Poland and have lived in Canada since the age of 7. :)
hi Alex, a little question : ” have lived in Canada since the age of 7 ” and ” I’ve been living in Poland since the age of 7 ” have the same meaning, with have lived a little bit informal form, or what ? thanks in advance for your reply . stefano ( Italy <9
In this case, they’re both extremely similar. They both talk about an event that started in the past and has continued until the present. The focus with the first one is on the result, while the focus on the second one is on the continuation of the action. I know that’s a quick and dirty explanation, but there isn’t much of a difference in this case. There are situations where they’re different, though.
I’ve been standing in the rain for 30 minutes. (I’m still standing in the rain now)
I’ve stood in the rain for 30 minutes. (maybe I’m still in the rain now, or maybe I’m talking about a past life experience)
Thank you Alex.
You’re welcome. Thanks for clicking and for studying with engVid.
very easy…no problem…thank you…;)
You’re welcome! Work on the pronunciation. :) It’s the most difficult part, especially when trying to speak quickly.
Can you speak any Polish?
Tak. Troche wiecej nisz troche. :)
My Polish is probably at an intermediate level at this point. I don’t get a chance to practice it very often. Just when I speak with my parents.
Siedem pierwszych lat życia w Polsce? To całkiem sporo, z jakiego miasta jesteś? Odwiedzałeś Polskę w dorosłym życiu? Jeżeli będziesz się kiedyś wybierał, polecam Kraków :)
I was born around Rzeszow. The last time I visited Poland was 20 years ago, but I plan to go this year with my family. I’m looking forward to it!

Can i say: “where would you want/like to eat/meet with me?” what is prefer to use?
Thanks.
I would say these are common:
Where would you like to meet me?
Where would you like to eat?
Where do you wanna go/eat/meet?
Where would you want to go/eat/meet me?
Good, very good, my congratulation.
“My congratulations.” It’s always plural. :)
Thanks for watching, Homell!

Thanks! I don’t plan on stopping any time soon!
Hi Alex,
I am very happy to meet you again. We are a big family – Engvid Family- and I am a big fan of your lessons.

Hey Alex, thank you very much for teaching us in an easy way.
Not a problem. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks! Please, more such lessons :)
Look out for more question lessons in 2016. :)
Thanks! I will
Pronunciation of “Where” and “Were” is very similar, isn’t it?
Thanks, Adam.
Both have a very different vowel sound.
Where has the same vowel sound as “air,” “hair,” or “bear.”
Were has the same vowel sound as “sure,” “fur,” or “purr.”
You are always very nice and kind, Alex and I am always distracted (I wrote Adam). Sorry.
Now pronunciation of the two words is clear. Thanks again:)
hello
can i say (where you) instead of (where are you)??
No, that wouldn’t be right.
Well done.
Thank you very much!
Great class Alex, as always!! I have watched all your last classes: learning english with the hunger games, stars wars and so forth. I thought that could be a good idea a class about Oscars Awards in general, or only related with 2016. “The revenant” is attracting a lot of interest as well. Thanks Alex and we will be waiting for your next class!!
Cool idea. I’ll keep it in mind for a future lesson. I love pop culture, and I’d like to do more movie lessons in the future.
Hi Alex.
What is the difference between:
Where are you from? and Where do you come from? When I use the auxiliary verb do or does? Thank´s a lot, you are the best
Do is used with I, You, We, and They. Does is used with He, She, and It.
Where DOES he live?
When DO you wake up?
Where are you from is much more common and informal.
Thank you Alex!
Any time. Thanks for clicking.
the lesson is very interesting.I’m proud of you,Alex
Thanks! I’m glad you found it useful.
Thank you very much. Would you please suggest me a site where I can practise my speaking and my writing. You will be very helpful.
Hmm, unfortunately, I don’t know of any sites for this. For speaking and writing correction, a private teacher is probably your best bet. I may do a future lesson on writing correction, though.
Thank you. I’m waiting.

Hello Alex, Thanks for the lesson!, I got a couple questions I would like to know if you can talk about those in your future broadcasts. First: I want to know the difference between ANYMORE and NO LONGER, secondly, I got confused about “worth” is it an adjetive or noun? In movies and series I heard they even use it as a verb, Am I right? Thanks in advance.
It’s an adjective AND a noun depending on the context.
“What is it worth?” (adjective)
“What is its worth?” (noun – what is its value?)
It’s also a preposition in a strange way. For more info, go here: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/worth?s=t

Teacher,
“Where do you go to school?” Sounds so strange to me.
I think that:
“Where is your school?” is better than “Where do you go to school?”
What do you think? Let me know, please.
Thanks. All the best.
Thanks Alex. I took your lecture first time. It was very easy for me to understand how to use “where”.
